Tennessee ranked fourth in the nation regarding inbound moves to the state, according to recent data compiled by the Allied Magnet States Report. The report tracks migration patterns in the U.S. and is published annually by Allied Van Lines, an American moving company.
The top relocation destination states in 2022 were Arizona, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Florida. The top states that saw people move away throughout the year were Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, and New Jersey.

“The most moved to states in 2022 were both affordable and offered better financial security,” the report said, adding, “The pattern repeats with unemployment figures.”
Most individuals relocating to Tennessee landed in Nashville, as the state’s capital city was among the top inbound cities for movers in 2022.
Besides Nashville, the top inbound cities in the nation during 2022 were Tucson, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Austin. The top outbound cities for movers were New York City, Anaheim, San Diego, Chicago, and Riverside.
“Rising interest rates and a stagnant uncertain economy has put homeownership nearly out of reach in major cities. As a result, smaller, low-priced markets saw significant growth last year, while large, high-priced markets saw a corresponding decline,” the report further stated.
The annual report also showed fewer people moved in 2022 compared to 2021. Moves plummeted in every state, resulting in a 20 percent decrease over last year.
“Rising rents and interest rates, along with inflation and falling wages, meant people moved less in 2022 than they did during the coronavirus pandemic,” the report states. “Those who could afford to relocate, moved south and settled along the Sunbelt, which offered stronger economic opportunities and a lower cost of living than the West Coast or Northeast.”
Aside from the 11 states with remarkable inbound or outbound moving data, most of the country experienced a balanced rate among movers.
Georgia, for example, experienced a total inbound rate of 54.3 percent and an outbound rate of 45.7 percent among movers in 2022. Wisconsin experienced a total inbound rate of 49.3 percent and an outbound rate of 50.7 percent.
Ohio saw the most balanced total moving rate in 2020, having experienced an inbound and outbound rate of 50 percent.

Tie to turn the spigot off for those wanting to move to Tennessee. We are past the point of being able to provide infrastructure and schools to handle the crazy influx. Of course, the governor and his runaway Economic “Developemnt” cabal do not seem to care about how this great increase in Tennessee population impacts exiting residents.
