Tennessee saw 19,461 new unemployment claims for the week ending on July 25, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).
The number of new jobless claims dropped from 25,794 the week prior (ending July 18).
This week marked the third time new weekly unemployment claims were fewer than 20,000 since the State of Emergency was declared on March 12, 2020.
Continued claims fell to 242,397, a slight decline from 243,405 reported the week prior. Total new jobless claims since March 14 rose to 759,584.
Shelby County led all counties in total continued and initial claims with 55,088 and 4,648, respectively. While continued claims rose from 53,347 the week prior, total initial claims fell from 6,271 reported for the week ending July 18.
Davidson and Knox Counties also experienced declines in total initial claims, falling to 2,114 and 978 from 3,262 and 1,256, respectively.
Pickett County reported the fewest initial claims. The county saw just 7 initial claims last week, a decline from 21 the week before. Pickett County’s continued claims dropped to 67 last week from 75 the week prior.
The overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Tennessee hit 9.7% last month, slightly below the national average of 11.1%.
