Tennessee Representative Mark Green to Host Third Annual Service Academy Day

Tennessee Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) announced in a Friday press release that he will be hosting his third annual Service Academy Day at Franklin High School on Saturday, October 2nd, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. with the formal program beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Academy Day will provide interested middle school students, high school students, parents, and teachers the opportunity to learn more about our nation’s service academies, as well as the nomination process.

According to the press release, representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Naval Academy will be in attendance. Representatives from Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC have also been invited to attend.

In a statement regarding the event, Representative Green said, “I’ll never forget when I approached my Congressman in Mississippi many years ago for a Service Academy nomination. Attending West Point was a great honor, and my time there led me to a lifetime of service. I look forward to speaking with students interested in following that same path.”

According to his official biography on his campaign website, Green – a successful business leader, decorated combat veteran, ER physician, and former Tennessee state senator – came to Tennessee in his last assignment in the Army as the flight surgeon for the premier special operations aviation regiment. As a Night Stalker, Green deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan in the War on Terror.

During his 24 years in the service, Green was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal with V Device for Valor, among many others.

During his time in the Tennessee state Senate and in Congress, Green has introduced and supported many bills that would have a positive impact on military veterans and their families.
