Tennessee Republican Party Executive Director Michael Sullivan is leaving to serve as campaign manager for Bill Hagerty’s U.S. Senate campaign, the Nashville Post said.
TNGOP Chairman Scott Golden said Sullivan “will be greatly missed and we wish him the best of luck on his future endeavors.”
According to Sullivan’s profile on LinkedIn, prior to his taking the Tennessee GOP positions, he served as press secretary for the Indiana House Republicans in 2010-2011 and statewide tours coordinator for the Indiana Republican Party before that. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hanover College in 2007.
Sullivan was with the Tennessee GOP between 2011-2015, then was with the Republican National Committee. He returned to the Tennessee party in 2017 as executive director, the position he has held until now, according to LinkedIn.
Sullivan appears to be joining a rising star in the Senate race.
Hagerty announced earlier this month that he had raised $1.9 million in his first three weeks since entering the race as a candidate, The Tennessee Star said.
The Senate candidate, once the director of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, in July resigned as ambassador to Japan to prepare for his campaign, The Star reported. Hagerty was the 30th Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan and was sworn in on July 27, 2017.
Previously, Hagerty blasted Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) for failing to defend President Trump on Friday’s edition of The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 am to 8:00 am.
“Mitt is flat wrong” in his statements on the issue of impeachment, he told Leahy.
