The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) cited Tennessee Titans linebacker Bud Dupree on Tuesday for a misdemeanor assault.

The citation follows an altercation between Dupree and an employee at a Walgreens in Germantown, according to a release from MNPD.

The physical confrontation left the employee with a cut to his forehead, leading the victim to press charges against Dupree. The decision to issue a citation was made after consultation with the district attorney.

“On 1/2/2002, around 2000 hours, the victim was working at the Walgreens located at 1104 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. A group of subjects entered the store to shop. Some of the subjects got into a verbal argument with the victim. The subjects left, then re-entered the store with the defendant. The defendant then grabbed the victim and his phone. They then got into a physical altercation before the defendant left the location. Due to the victim being assaulted, the defendant is being charged with assault-fear of bodily injury,” the narrative on the citation explained.

The statement from the police also details that Dupree met with detectives with the department on Tuesday morning at the Hermitage Precinct. Separately, Dupree’s attorney met with detectives Monday afternoon.

The Titans’ player has three weeks to report for booking.

“We are aware of the situation and are gathering additional information,” the Titans said in a statement to WKRN reporter Emily Proud.

The altercation happened hours after the team defeated the Miami Dolphins, winning the AFC South championship back-to-back years and securing a position in the NFL playoffs.

Last offseason, Dupree left the Pittsburgh Steelers to sign with the Titans and coach Mike Vrabel. The agreement pays the outside linebacker approximately $85 million over a five-year period.
