Former President Trump addressed the media on Wednesday as the jury in his hush money trial deliberates.
“Mother Teresa could not beat these charges. These charges are rigged. The whole thing is rigged. The whole country’s a mess between the borders and fake elections and you have a trial like this where the judge is so conflicted he can’t breathe,” Trump said outside of the courtroom in New York. “It’s a disgrace and I mean that. Mother Teresa could not beat those charges but we’ll see how we do.”
Trump said the charges against him could have been brought forth a long time ago but instead the trial is taking place during the presidential election.
“It shouldn’t be allowed to happen,” he said.
Trump said he will be staying “around here” for the next 5 weeks due to the trial and “essentially not campaigning.”
“I think the people of the country see the rigged deal,” he said. “It’s a weaponized deal for Democrats to hit their politically opponent.”
Trump called actor Robert DeNiro a “broken down fool” after he slammed Trump outside of the courthouse on Tuesday.
“He got MAGA ed,” he said, referencing his supporters who clashed with the actor.
Prior to making a statement outside of the courtroom, the president unleashed a series of posts on the Truth Social platform about the trial.
“KANGAROO COURT! A CORRUPT AND CONFLICTED JUDGE. RELIANCE ON COUNSEL (ADVISE OF COUNSEL) NOT ALLOWED BY MERCHAN, A FIRST,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump wrote that he has “no rights” against the “crooked judge’s gag order,” referring to Judge Juan Merchan.
“HIS RULINGS, ON A CASE THAT SHOULD, ACCORDING TO ALL LEGAL SCHOLARS AND EXPERTS, NEVER HAVE BEEN BROUGHT, HAVE MADE THIS A BIDEN PUSHED WITCH HUNT. THERE WAS NO CRIME, EXCEPT FOR THE BUM THAT GOT CAUGHT STEALING FROM ME! IN GOD WE TRUST!” he wrote.
