Several media outlets report that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to intensive care at a London-area hospital with worsening symptoms of COVID-19.

In a short statement Sunday, the Prime Minister’s office said Johnson was merely going for testing purposes:

The Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus.

The Prime Minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the Government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

As The Tennessee Star reported, Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 March 26, and had self-isolated at 10 Downing Street since then.

Monday morning, the Boris Johnson Twitter account tweeted the parliamentarian was “in good spirits:”

According to the daily coronavirus press briefing Monday, the United Kingdom has had 51,608 active cases of the Chinese Virus. Over 17,911 have been hospitalized; and the website lists that 5,373 have died.

This is a developing story…
