U.S. Rep. Duffy of Wisconsin Will Leave Congress Sept. 23 Over Unborn Child’s Heart Condition

Pro-life U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI-07), an ally of President Donald Trump, will resign from Congress in his fifth term for family reasons.

Duffy said in a social media post he will leave his seat on Sept. 23 because his ninth child has a heart condition, The Hill reported.

His Facebook post is here.

Recently, we’ve learned that our baby, due in late October, will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition. With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now. It is not an easy decision — because I truly love being your Congressman — but it is the right decision for my family, which is my first love and responsibility.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission office told CNN that Democratic Gov. Tony Evers cannot call a special election until the office is vacant. There is no time limit on when the governor must order the election, but the election must happen within about three to four months once he does make the call.

Duffy’s credentials include his having worked as a professional lumberjack athlete, ESPN color commentator and district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin, from 2002-2008, CNN said. He was first elected to Congress in 2010.

The congressman first gained notice as a cast member on MTV  reality show “The Real World,” Boston edition, in 1997, CBS News said. His wife is Rachel Campos of the Real World’s San Francisco cast.

MSN quoted U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN-06), the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman. He said, in a statement, “Sean Duffy is right to put his family first during this tough time and Jacquie and I will keep them in our prayers. This district is a Republican stronghold, and whoever the socialist Democrats nominate will be forced to answer for their party’s radical agenda of open borders, socialized health care and a lust for impeaching President Trump.”
