The Memphis Police Department (MPD) says it has no leads following a viral video of two men driving a car erratically on the interstate over the weekend, stopping traffic.
The video has been circulating the internet since it was posted by KWAM Radio in Memphis on Sunday night. At least one person stood in the highway filming the incident.
This happened on the interstate this weekend. Our city has fallen to anarchy. Since Friday, there have been 6 shootings, 4 smash & grab robberies, a FedEx truck was robbed in traffic and up to 70 cars terrorized residents on Colonial. “There were calls regarding vehicle disturbances at 240 near Perkins at approximately 12:30 am,” MPD Public Information Officer Theresa Carlson told The Tennessee Star Monday. “When officers checked the area, they were unable to locate it.”
Tennessee Highway Patrol did not return a comment request.
Saturday night, a FedEx truck was robbed while sitting at a crowded intersection in Memphis.
That incident was also caught on video, and Fox13 says that three people have been detained in connection to the robbery. Security officers at the Breezy Point Apartments reportedly called police in relation to the truck robbery, and responding officers took three men into custody after they admitted to stealing some of the items, which police found in their possession.
“The safety of our team members and the security of our customers’ shipments are top priorities, and we are grateful there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident,” FedEx reportedly said. “We are cooperating fully with investigating authorities and taking appropriate steps to address this matter.”
Meanwhile, around 40 people ransacked several gas stations in Memphis on Saturday night, stealing at least $17,000 worth of merchandise. That incident made international news.
MPD has not posted any updates about any of the incidents in its Facebook page, but ominously posted a graphic warning Memphians to be aware of their surroundings.
The graphic provided the following instructions:
- When in a parking lot, stay off your cell phone to avoid distraction.
- Avoid using both earbuds/headphones so that you can hear your surrounding.
- Change up your driving routine. Don’t take the same route everyday.
- Trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel right, take steps to avoid that situation.
- When in a crowded place, look for nearby exits.
