Watchdog Says Bank of America Has Hosted Consecutive Fundraising Galas For Planned Parenthood

Archived webpages show Bank of America sponsored consecutive annual fundraising galas for Planned Parenthood of New York City, according to a press release by 2ndVote.

The archives are available here.

Conservative watchdog organization 2ndVote published an online announcement for Planned Parenthood of New York City’s May 2, 2017, centennial gala. That form listed Bank of America as a “corporate sponsor.” The event was billed as a “once-in-a-lifetime gala to benefit Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood of New York City.”

Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was presented with the Champion of the Century Award at the gala.

One year later, a similar announcement for Planned Parenthood of New York City’s “Spring Into Action Gala” on May 1, 2018, listed Bank of America as a “bronze sponsor.”

2ndVote also posted IRS Form 990 filings by Bank of America Charitable Foundation that show donations to multiple Planned Parenthood affiliates. In 2017, the foundation distributed over $50,000 to these organizations.

The Form 990 filings are available here.

In addition, 2ndVote released a copy of a letter from Bank of America Charitable Foundation President Kerry Sullivan from Feb. 5, 2019. The letter reads, “Bank of America does not make any direct grants to Planned Parenthood. As you may know, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has a Matching Gifts program which matches our employees’ charitable contributions to government recognized 501(c)3 organizations.”

2ndVote is a conservative watchdog for corporate activism. 2ndVote conducts extensive research on the policy positions taken by companies and non-profits through direct advocacy and financial support.

Using 2ndVote’s information, the Free Enterprise Project (FEP) on Wednesday confronted Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan over the company’s support for Planned Parenthood. More information is available here.

Pro-Life Waco earlier in April staged protests asking Bank of America to end its employee matching grant program with Planned Parenthood, according to a story by LifeNews.

According to the group: “Pro-Life Waco is leading a campaign to convince national management of Bank of America to completely terminate its financial support for Planned Parenthood. Bank of America includes Planned Parenthood in its 100% match to employees donations.”
