The Williamson County Republican Party – along with Davidson County Republican Party, Republican Women of Williamson County, Williamson County Young Republicans, Williamson County Republican Career Women, and the Tennessee College Republican Committee – is pulling out all the stops to bring local Republicans out for the Annual Summer Dinner, set for July 15 in Thompson’s Station.
This year’s fundraiser features an All-Star speaker line up, with Representative Marsha Blackburn, State Senators Mark Green and Mae Beavers, and businessman Bill Lee.
“The Republican Party of Williamson County’s Annual Membership Dinner on Saturday July 15th at Little Creek Farms in Thompson’s Station signals the kickoff of this election season. Come dance and listen to Senator Jack Johnson’s band, The Austin Boys, or just tap your toes while you enjoy some BBQ with all the fix in’s and a cold glass of iced tea,” Williamson County Republican Party Chairman Debbie Deaver tells The Tennessee Star.
Congressman Blackburn will be on hand to chat about the latest news from Washington, D.C. State Senator Mark Green will provide a legislative wrap-up for the last session of the General Assembly. And you will hear from gubernatorial candidates Mae Beavers and local businessman Bill Lee—who knows, you may end up sharing dessert with our next governor.
One step the County Party is taking to educate voters is printing voter districts on each guest’s name badge, so they can connect with their County Commissioners and School Board members. Chad Grey, Williamson County Administrator of Elections will be present to explain the 2018 election cycle and will have voting maps.
“While our guests are eating BBQ, we are creating a venue where everyone who attends learns not only the names of their elected officials, but also what they look like and how to contact them. They will also leave knowing about the 2018 elections. This is really our grassroots kick-off and the beginning of recruiting volunteers for campaigns in 2018. I think this is a huge first step,” Deaver adds:
As most of us know pay attention to national level issues, like how Rep. Marsha Blackburn is working to protect our privacy by fighting to prevent corporations like Google from tracking customers’ activities and selling their data without consent. Yet, it’s really the local government that affects us daily, and it’s what people know the least about. Things like taxes, schools, and roads have a real impact on our quality of life. Yet most people don’t know who their County Commissioners or School Board representatives are.
Our message is simple: governing as something we should do with our elected officials. We are a team, and we need to show up. Our elected officials are looking for feedback, and they want to hear from us. Not only should we show up, but we should provide support and encouragement for those who are fighting the good fight for us. We have to stop deserting our elected officials after we spend months working crazy hard to get them elected.
“We all know that the landscape is changing in Williamson County,” Deaver says.
“The question is… ‘Do we want to be part of that conversation?’ As Republicans, it seems like most of us vote and go home and mow the lawn. Might be time to reconsider this approach! ” she concludes.
According to the announcement, the July 15 event will feature “Tennessee’s first major 2018 straw poll.”
It all kicks off at Little Creek Farms in Thompson’s Station on Saturday, July 15 at 4 p.m. Tickets – while they are still available! – are $25 per person, but the whole family can join the fun for only $50.
