The Beacon Center of Tennessee announced Thursday that it has hired Wen Fa, a nationally renowned attorney, as its Director of Legal Affairs.
“Fa joins Beacon from the Pacific Legal Foundation, where he served as a senior attorney in PLF’s equality and opportunity program,” according to a press release. “Fa led the expansion of PLF’s equality project by litigating numerous cases and securing important victories for farmers and entrepreneurs fighting for economic opportunity and against racial discrimination.”
According to the Beacon Center, Fa has successfully argued two cases before the Supreme Court.
One of those cases, Cedar Point Nursery et al. v. Hassid et al., dealt with a California law that allowed unions to gather on private agricultural property in order to drum up support for their causes.
Fa, on behalf of Cedar Point Nursery, which employs hundreds of seasonal agricultural workers, successfully argued that it was unconstitutional under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment to force landowners to appropriate “without compensation an easement for union organizers to enter their property.”
“The Founders recognized that the protection of private property is indispensable to the promotion of individual freedom,” said Chief Justice John Roberts, who delivered the Court’s opinion in 2021. “As John Adams tersely put it, ‘[p]roperty must be secured, or liberty cannot exist.’ This Court agrees, having noted that protection of property rights is ‘necessary to preserve freedom’ and ’empowers persons to shape and to plan their own destiny in a world where governments are always eager to do so for them.'”
The Beacon Center is a Nashville-based conservative legal group that helps Tennesseeans protect their freedoms.
