Butler County Sheriff Wants Ohio State Lawmakers to Pass Legislation Focused on Curbing Terrorism Threats

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones called on state lawmakers to pass legislation focused on curbing terrorism threats posed by illegal immigration and insufficient cybersecurity based on information he learned at last month’s National Sheriff’s Association’s annual winter conference in Washington D.C.

Jones (pictured above) said he’s asked Republican State Representatives Cindy Abrams (R-District 29) and Sara Carruthers (R-District 47) to introduce the following legislation as soon as possible:

  • A bill that would authorize law enforcement to file felony charges against anyone in Ohio who is an illegal alien;
  • A bill authorizing the creation of a full-time state cybersecurity czar to protect government entities from terror attacks through hacking; and
  • A bill authorizing the creation of a task force focused on securing the state’s northern border with Canada.

While speaking to reporters this week, Jones said FBI Director Christopher Wray, who spoke at the conference, suggested that an attack on the nation “isn’t a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”

“We were also told by Mr. Wray, the FBI Director, that there are more red flags going off now than before 9/11,” Jones said. “When I say red flags, meaning people that are here in this country that are wanting to do harm to us. It was also explained we’re bombing two countries right now – two countries. These people did not like us before this started. There’s thousands of people here from other countries – 160 other countries. They’re here not to be our friends. Some of them are coming because they want to come to the best country in the world, the way we see it. Some are coming here to do harm to us and we were told by the FBI director it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”

Ohio Secretary of State and U.S. Senate candidate Frank LaRose shared Jones’ remarks on X, adding the caption, “Thank you, @ButlerSheriff for sounding the alarm. With President Biden in charge, every state has become a border state. We have to stop the invasion, before it’s too late.”
