President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to “protect children from left-wing gender insanity” includes signing executive orders, working with Congress to pass multiple laws, and instructing his administration to investigate entities that receive federal funding that promote gender transitions.
In a video published by his presidential campaign in February 2023, Trump said “no serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender,” adding that the “left-wing gender insanity being pushed on our children is an act of child abuse.”
Trump said he will take steps on the first day of his administration to begin tackling the issue, first with revoking policies from the Biden-Harris administration that advance and promote “gender-affirming care” for minors and sign a new executive order “instructing every federal agency to cease all programs that promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age.”
The president-elect said he will also involve the Department of Education and Department of Justice (DOJ) in his efforts to end the promotion of gender transitions.
Trump said he will direct the Department of Education to “inform states and school districts that if any teacher or school official suggests to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body, they will be faced with severe consequences, including, potential Civil Rights violations for sex discrimination, and the elimination of federal funding.”
The Department of Education will also be instructed to implement a new credentialing body for teachers that “promotes positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers, and celebrating rather than erasing the things that make men and women different and unique.”
The DOJ will be instructed to investigate “Big Pharma and the big hospital networks to determine whether they have: “Deliberately covered up horrific long-term side-effects of “sex transitions” to get rich at the expense of vulnerable patients; or illegally marketed hormones and puberty blockers.”
Trump said his administration will also “declare that any hospital or healthcare provider participating in the chemical or physical mutilation of minor youth will no longer meet federal health and safety standards for Medicaid and Medicare—and will be terminated from the program.”
Likewise, Trump said his administration will also support the creation of a private right of action for victims to sue doctors who have unforgivably performed gender transition procedures on minor children.
In addition to tackling the issue at the executive level, Trump said he will work with Congress to “permanently stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote or pay for” gender-affirming procedures and also pass a law “prohibiting child sexual mutilation in all 50 states.”
Trump said he also intends to work with Congress to pass a bill which “establishes that the only genders recognized by the U.S. government are male and female—and they are assigned at birth; Title IX prohibits men from participating in women’s sports; and protects the rights of parents from being forced to allow their minor child to assume a new gender identity without the parents’ consent.”
Trump’s vow to end the promotion of gender transitions comes as oral arguments in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case examining the issue of “gender-affirming care” for minors, United States v. Skrmetti, will be heard on December 4.
The Supreme Court will decide whether or not a Tennessee state law banning “gender-affirming care” for minors violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment – a decision that will set a precedent for current and future laws targeting “gender-affirming care” for minors moving forward.
