Tennessee U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) reintroduced a bill Wednesday that would require annual reporting on federal funds spent in China.
Green’s Our Money in China Transparency Act, if enacted, would “require an annual, detailed report on any federal funds spent on activities in collaboration with Communist China’s entities and institutions.”
“It’s simple—the American people should know which Chinese entities and institutions receive our federal dollars. Communist China is a national security threat; it’s time we act like it. My bill provides critical transparency for the American people,” Green said in an emailed statement to The Tennessee Star.
The Tennessee congressman originally introduced the bill in 2020, as previously reported by The Star.
Now, as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Green says “Xi Jinping will stop at nothing to undermine the United States.”
“My bill mandates one important thing: transparency. Taxpayers deserve a detailed look at funds that currently go to entities in China. From stealing American intellectual property, setting up ‘police stations’ to monitor Chinese residents living in the U.S., and scheming to devalue the dollar, this regime is a threat to our way of life and our national security,” Green added.
Green’s reintroduction of his bill comes as the House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing this week focused on examining global threats to the U.S. homeland and security interests abroad.
The congressman, in his opening statement, listed “some of the greatest threats” currently facing the nation as “an open and lawless Southwest border,” the “rising threat of terrorism; rogue nation-state actors and criminal elements seeking to do us harm,” and “efforts by foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party to target our critical infrastructure.”
Green’s bill also comes as President Joe Biden met with China’s Xi Jinping this week in San Francisco.

Nothing will happen with regards to the CCP. Too many big bucks operations like Apple and IBM are so deep into China that there is little to no hope of ever getting out from under China’s thumb. Just follow the money.
I think it may be better to require inbound payments from the CCP just as much as the outbound.
