Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles Introduces Bills to Freeze Hiring at the CFPB, USAGM, and ATF

Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) has introduced three bills to permanently freeze hiring at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).

“It’s past time to stop the ever-growing bureaucracy in its tracks,” Ogles said in a statement. “Imposing hiring freezes in agencies that never should have been created to begin with is just the first step of several that need to be taken for the sake of the American people. It’s time to stop using taxpayer dollars to fund federal corruption.”

Ogles’ Mandating the Abolition of a Threat to Consumer Happiness (MATCH) Act would prohibit the CFPB from establishing any new positions or transferring employees to new posts in addition to imposing a permanent hiring freeze at the bureau.

“The CFPB was designed by liberals to harass American businesses and has been compromising American consumers’ access to financial services,” Ogles stated while introducing the bill on the house floor.

“[The CFPB] is an agency that needs to be burnt to the ground, and I am providing the match,” Ogles added.

Ogles’ Zero Increase in Personnel for Propagandistic Outreach (ZIPPO) Act would impose a hiring freeze on the USAGM, to which the Tennessee Congressman noted, “USAGM receives $875 million dollars to supposedly inform people around the world about freedom and democracy. Unfortunately, besides failing at its mission, the USAGM has a deep history of corruption.”

Finally, Ogles’ Forbidding the Increase of Rogue Enforcers (FIRE) Act would impose a hiring freeze at the ATF.

“The ATF has a history of reckless incompetence and proposals to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of Americans. The last thing the country needs is more federal agents threatening the rights of the people,” Ogles said.
