Disgraced Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry ‘Exploring’ U.S. House Campaign Against Rep. Mark Green

Former Metro Nashville Mayor Megan Barry confirmed on Wednesday night that she is “exploring” a campaign to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for U.S. House, which could see her challenge Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) in 2024.

Barry (pictured above) said she is considering launching a campaign in a statement to News Channel 5, in which she revealed she will “decide in the coming weeks.” Justifying a potential run, Barry claimed Green “deserves to be challenged” because of his pro-life positions on healthcare and support for the Second Amendment.

Formerly Nashville’s mayor until 2018, Barry resigned in disgrace after it emerged that she spent nearly $175,000 of taxpayer money while carrying out a two-year affair with her bodyguard, and used taxpayer resources and vehicles to facilitate the affair at the Nashville City Cemetery.

Though she initially characterized the story as “false and slanderous,” within days of News Channel 5 breaking news of the affair, Barry pleaded guilty in criminal court to felony theft of more than $10,000. Part of the plea agreement required Barry to resign, and she also agreed to pay $11,000 in restitution.

In 2021, after serving the terms of her probation, Barry’s criminal record was expunged.

Prior to the scandal that caused her resignation, Barry routinely earned national media recognition for her efforts to make Nashville a “sanctuary city,” where federal immigration laws are not enforced, and to abide by the terms of the Paris Climate Agreement in defiance of former President Donald Trump’s federal government.

In a statement explaining her decision, Barry said the United States “should be a global leader” on climate change, and called it “very disappointing that President Trump” did not agree. “I am committed to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement,” Barry said at the time. “Even if the President is not.”

After resigning from office, Barry taught a course at “Women in Politics” at Frisk University.

Should she secure the Democratic nomination, Barry will face Green in the general election. Green has held his seat since 2019 and retained his seat in 2022. He entered the contentious race for House Speaker but ultimately endorsed Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA-04) for the role.

Only a fool would support this lady…..

There is your dog whistle candidate for the looney left. They elect people regularly that are willing to commit crimes and support immoral behavior.

An important point is being missed in this discussion. Of course, my crystal ball is no clearer than anyone else’s, but U. S. Rep. Green has been widely rumored as a likely candidate for Governor when Governor Lee’s current term ends in January 2027. Lee will then be term-limited. That means that if Congressman Green does in fact run for Governor, he would do so in the Republican Primary in August of 2026. And of course, if U. S. Rep. Green runs for Governor in the August 2026 Republican Primary, then that also means that he will NOT be running for re-election to his Congressional seat that year. So, bringing all of this to the present, if former Mayor Barry runs for Green’s 7th Congressional District seat in 2024, and loses (as she most probably will), she will then nevertheless be well-positioned to run again for that seat in 2026 when Congressman Green steps aside. Barry will be well-position against any Democrat who might also want the seat, and she will be well-positioned against most any Republican who would want to succeed Congressman Green. I think that one can assume that Barry has already obtained her financial backing for these two races (i.e., both the 2024 and the 2026 campaigns). I dare say that a lot of skullduggery has already gone into Barry’s decision to seek this congressional seat.

Only in American can a felon run for federal office. Is she eligible to vote for herself?

Maybe she has become aware of the slush fund that Congress has for paying hush money to those who have been “dallied with” by Representatives and Senators. That fits her modus operandi. I am sure that there must be a nice quiet cemetery in D.C. where she can ply her trade.

I disagree, she doesn’t have any morals. She has an affair in a cemetery, spends 175,00.00 in taxpayer money and only has to pay back 11,000.00. Why isn’t she in jail and why didn’t she have to pay back the full amount. Oh wait she’s a demoncrat. NUFF SAID. Reminds me of the crackhead mayor of Washington, DC. Marion Berry.

    How about ambassador to Greece?

This woman has the morals of a thief, and I apologize to any thieves who don’t want her considered part of their group. She lies, steals, and is deceitful. While she may have “forgot” about her many transgressions, the people in the district have not.

We really need to figure out how to communicate with the people who support someone like this politically. The democrats I have encountered consider themselves to be far more intelligent than everyone else. They are unwilling, however, to hold a meaningful conversation on most any pertinent topic. When faced with actual facts they become agitated and argumentative. This leads to avoidance. It will be tough to reconcile this country when we can’t even have meaningful conversation with those of differing opinions. That said, we REALLY need to find a way to start turning Nashville/Davidson toward the conservative values that most of the rest of the state of TN hold or we will soon become like every other state with big cities.
