Phill Kline, former Kansas Attorney General and current law professor at Liberty University School of Law, said the Democratic Party “lost faith in democracy a long time ago,” specifically citing multiple occasions when Democrat-occupied executive branches “stretched the law” to act without legislative consultation or approval on partisan issues.
Kline said Democrats have abused the executive branch to stretch emergency powers to advance partisan policies, including the environment, gun control, and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Biden administration will initiate actions under claimed executive authority, which are struck down by courts across the nation, including the United States Supreme Court, and the Biden administration goes right back doing it again…They do it with election integrity. They do it with the environment. They are doing it with the issue of student loans. The reality is that the Democratic Party lost faith in democracy a long time ago,” Kline said on Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“If you study some of the intellectual leadership and their writings of the Democratic Party during the late 20th century, you will see them speaking in favor of things like declaring an environmental emergency. What that means is that the executive stretches current law to the point that he says the executive has the power to do that, to act without legislative consultation or approval to address this emergency. Much if we suddenly found ourselves in a war because we were being invaded, the president has emergency powers, of course, to deploy the Army, the Navy, the Air Force to defend American soil. And so they are saying they need to exercise similar power for the environment, they need to declare gun violence emergencies so that they could ban gun ownership. They did that with the COVID emergency in an effort and successfully, in many ways, to undermine the 2020 election,” Kline added.
Kline claimed Democrats and the left wing of the party see democracy as a “hindrance” to their policy objectives despite the Democratic Party branding itself as “defenders of democracy.”
“This administration and the left of the Democratic Party have shown and acted consistent with the belief that democracy is a hindrance to achieving the policy objectives they desire,” Kline said.
Looking forward to the November 5 presidential election, Kline said he hopes that voters will “see beyond our broken media” and recognize how the policies from the Biden administration “divide and harm the American community.”
“My hope is that the American public can see beyond our broken media and see the Biden policies and see how those policies divide and harm the American community, how they undermine our international relations and our domestic safety and our economy, and they vote Republican,” Kline said.
However, Kline was not optimistic when it came to changes made to strengthen voter integrity across the nation since the 2020 election, especially when it comes to prohibiting illegal immigrants from voting.
“I don’t think we have a lot of confidence that [illegal immigrants] will not [vote]. And in a broader sense as it relates to election law but a narrower sense as it relates to the type of population where fraudulent votes might be cast, we have not addressed the problems of 2020. I believe that the Democratic presidential candidate in the swing states in the urban core will gain about a two to 4-point advantage because of what should be and what is illegal activity in the election,” Kline said.
In order to combat illegal voting activity, Kline said Republicans must turn out the vote in November.
“You’ve got to turn out people to exceed their margin,” Kline said.
