Elon Musk, Sen. Mark Kelly CNN interview

Elon Musk taunted Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) in a post to his social media platform, X, after the Democrat suggested the Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink boss is motivated to support former President Donald Trump by the tax cuts enacted under Trump’s first administration.

Kelly received the taunt after claiming the comments Musk made at the rally held by former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday were “hypocritical.”

“He’s standing next to the guy that tried to overturn the 2020 election, on January 6, and saying this is somehow going to be the last election,” said Kelly during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “It just doesn’t pass the logic test.”

Musk shared the clip on X, and wrote, “Bring. It. On.”

The remarks referenced by Kelly were made by Musk after the world’s richest man spoke at the former president’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which was the site of the July 13 assassination attempt against Trump.

Specifically, Musk argued the election would be “the most important election of our lifetime.”

He told the crowd, “The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. They want to take away your right to vote effectively… California, where I used to live, just passed a law banning voter ID for voting.”

Musk has additionally argued in a post to X that he considers the 2024 elections to be the final in the United States because the border crisis under the Biden-Harris administration is likely to tilt the scales of future election results toward the Democrats.

Let me explain,” wrote Musk, “if even 1 in 20 illegals become citizens per year, something that the Democrats are expediting as fast as humanly possible, that would be about 2 million new legal voters in 4 years.”

Musk wrote, “The voting margin in the swing states is often less than 20 thousand votes. That means if the ‘Democratic’ Party succeeds, there will be no more swing states!!”

In Kelly’s remarks to CNN, he also suggested Musk’s endorsement of Trump and presence at the Pennsylvania rally highlight, “the amount of influence that dark money and billionaires have in our political system.”

Kelly told host Shannon Bream, “Donald Trump, when he was president, gave a giant tax cut to billionaires. Elon Musk is the richest person in the world. He’s got a tremendous amount of interest in Donald Trump being elected president.”

Though reportedly briefly considered to complete the presidential ticket with Vice President Kamala Harris, Kelly was not among the final vice president candidates who traveled to meet with Harris just before she selected Governor Tim Walz.

While Kelly is not on the ballot this November, he nonetheless became active within his party’s primary process, endorsing former State Senator Raquel Teran in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional district. Teran ultimately lost to Yassamin Ansari, surprising many who estimated the weight of Kelly’s endorsement would help her become the nominee.

Despite his endorsed candidate failing to win a primary victory, Kelly told Bream he remains confident Harris will carry Arizona in November.
