EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and former journalist who moved from Minnesota to Tennessee four years ago, is warning voters about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and his “extremely radical views” ahead of the November 5 general election.
After incumbent President Joe Biden exited the race, Vice President and now-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris tapped Walz to be her running mate in the 2024 election.
Haust said that while Walz wears a plaid shirt and “looks the part” of being a “folksy,” midwestern Democrat, the former Minnesota resident said the governor has “extremely radical views” who “does what Democrat people in power tell him to do.”
“I think he does what Democrat people in power tell him to do. That’s what he does. He embellishes, he exaggerates. Everything with Tim Walz is about Tim Walz. How can he get more attention? How can he be the center of attention? Which is why, quite honestly, I was surprised that Kamala Harris chose him, but, who else did she have at that point? Because I think everybody else decided to wait until next time,” Haust explained on Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“It doesn’t surprise me that it came down to Tim Walz because he is a ‘team guy’ and he’ll do whatever they tell him to do, but he does have extremely radical views,” Haust added.
Haust cited Walz’s collective policies during the COVID-19 pandemic as examples of his “radical” governorship.
“You have to remember, other states were opening at a time when he was just getting started. We had family members that were dying in hospitals alone and kids couldn’t go to school and neighbors were calling the police on their neighbors who were playing basketball in the backyard,” Haust said.
One troubling incident during the pandemic Haust described that was orchestrated under Walz’s watch was when Minnesota National Guard troops – armed with non-lethal weapons – were dispatched to the streets of Minneapolis to direct individuals to stay inside their homes forcefully.
“It was pretty harrowing. Absolutely terrifying. They were yelling…then they were taking shots,” Haust explained, noting how the incident took place after the George Floyd riots, which saw thousands of individuals gathering in public and vandalizing businesses with little to no repercussions.
“It’s important to remember that this was days after the George Floyd riots. So we were all being told that we had to stay in our houses at the same time they were allowed to riot,” Haust said.
