Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., on Thursday withdrew his name from consideration to serve as attorney general, saying he believed the confirmation fight would needlessly distract from the Trump agenda.
“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many,” he posted on X. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.”
“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” he continued. “Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1. I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.”
Gaetz resigned from Congress after Trump named him his choice for the post.

The man resigns from congress and then walks away from the AG nomination. Something else is happening behind the scenes on this if I had to guess. I think President Trump played the bad actors to see who could not be trusted and cried over the nomination. I think Gates will land the Senator role instead. But the question is who will be the AG pick? Kash Patel has not been assigned anything. Maybe this is the play? Just trying to wrap my head around this. What do you guys think?
