Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to Attend Atlanta Fundraiser for Trump as Harris-Walz Rally in Savannah

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will reportedly be in Atlanta on Thursday to attend a fundraiser benefiting former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance (R-OH) in their campaign to recapture the White House for the Republican Party.

Kemp’s appearance at the Atlanta fundraiser, revealed on Tuesday, will be the first since he and Trump publicly set aside their feud. It will occur as a Democratic bus tour featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz reaches Savannah.

ABC News first revealed the governor’s attendance at the fundraiser, reporting that it is “a signal of how Kemp is working to reelect Trump despite their public feud,” which began publicly during the former president’s contest of the 2020 election results in Georgia.

During a Georgia rally, Trump recently accused the governor of disloyalty, which led the men to trade barbs on the former president’s Truth Social and the social media platform X.

Despite their disagreements, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) claimed Kemp previously told donors he would offer Trump the weight of his Georgia “political machine” to beat Harris and Walz in November, and Republican National Committee (RNC) Co-Chair Lara Trump predicted a softening in the relationship.

Kemp seemed to pronounce the feud dead last week when he endorsed the former president during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity,” declaring, “We need to send Donald Trump back to the White House.”

Trump welcomed Kemp’s endorsement in a social media post, writing, “I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Though Democrats’ decision to replace President Joe Biden with Harris reportedly led to optimism about winning the Peach State, the RealClearPolling aggregate of data shows the Trump campaign continues to enjoy a 1 percent lead in Georgia.

Harris and her running mate announced on a two-day bus tour of the state in a bid to close the gap in parts of Georgia that National Public Radio reported “don’t always get attention from Democratic politicians.”

During her Thursday stop in Savannah, it was also announced that Dana Bash would simultaneously interview both Harris and Walz for CNN in a program to be broadcast later that night.

This will be Harris’ first interview since she ascended to the top of her party’s presidential ticket after Biden dropped out of the race in July.
