U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that he was “probably the best business partner” cartels “could ever have” in a hearing on Tuesday.
“Mr. Secretary…you’ve allowed the cartels to make billions and billions. As a matter of fact, you’re probably the best business partner they could ever have,” she said, and added, “They make all this money in human trafficking and drug trafficking at our border. You’ve allowed approximately 300 Americans to be murdered every single day from fentanyl that comes across our border….”
The Georgia Representative also informed Mayorkas that she strongly urged Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to proceed with his impeachment trial and stated, “…Mr. Mayorkas, I demand that Chuck Schumer holds your impeachment trial in the Senate because that’s exactly what we should be focused on right now.”
Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA-3) raised similar complaints about the Secretary. “Under Secretary Mayorkas, America has suffered. Over 300,000 Americans have died from cartel drug poisoning, our communities are crushed under the weight of 12 million illegal aliens in the span of three years and crime has reached unprecedented levels within American communities across the country…he has brought unspeakable pain upon the nation…he must now be [t]ried by the Senate and removed from office.”
Greene, who has led the charge for the impeachment of the DHS Secretary, also announced Tuesday, “I just delivered my Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas to the United States Senate. Mayorkas is derelict of his duty and must be removed from office,” she said on Twitter (X).
In a related Twitter (X) post on Monday, Greene voiced her concern about child trafficking and her determination to hold Mayorkas accountable. “We are funding child trafficking of Guatemalan children and teens. Chuck Schumer must hold the Mayorkas impeachment trial in the Senate!”
Earlier in April, U.S. Senator John Barrasso [R-WY] called out President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas for their abandonment of the southern border to the cartels. “@POTUS and Secretary Mayorkas have surrendered the southern border to criminal cartels and drug dealers. The American people deserve their accountability.”
Greene introduced privileged Articles of Impeachment against the DHS Secretary to the House of Representatives in November 2023.
According to the press release on Representative Greene’s website, “Since assuming office, Secretary Mayorkas has aided and abetted the complete invasion of our country by deliberately flooding our nation with drugs, terrorists, and illegal aliens.”
Additionally, “Not only has Secretary Mayorkas enabled child exploitation, sex and drug trafficking, and fentanyl overdoses, but he has also done everything in his power to put Americans last. His policies, directives, and statements have created a national security crisis and have endangered the lives of American citizens.”
“As a result of intentionally failing to secure our homeland and putting the lives of every American in danger from his very first day in office, Alejandro Mayorkas is unfit to hold the office of Secretary of Homeland Security and must be impeached.”
On Wednesday, Schumer’s Democrat Senate rejected the articles of impeachment without a trial.
