House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green Previews Upcoming Hearing Examining Global Threats to U.S. Security

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN-07) recently announced a full Committee hearing examining “global threats to the U.S. homeland and our security interests abroad.”

The hearing entitled, “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland” will take place on Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00 a.m. EST and will feature testimony from the following three witnesses:

  • Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security;
  • Christopher Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
  • Christine Abizaid, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

Green says the hearing will be “crucial to examine how the Biden administration is falling short, and where Congress needs to step in so the administration can adequately protect our country” in regards to current threats including the “open border, an emboldened Iran and Russia, and a Chinese Communist Party on a quest for global dominance.”

“The complex threats facing our nation are growing, especially as enemies of freedom perceive weakness in the current administration,” Green said in a statement. “Our ally Israel faces continued attacks from proxies of the Iranian regime, a regime that also proudly chants ‘Death to America’ and brazenly threatens our citizens, interests, and allies in the region. In the wake of this administration’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and the country’s return to Taliban rule, the terrorist threat environment in the region is further deteriorating and spreading.”

Green went on to acknowledge growing threats posed by nations like China and Russia, noting, “Safeguarding our nation’s critical infrastructure and bolstering U.S. cybersecurity is a core aspect of the homeland security mission as it impacts the daily lives of every American.”

Green also criticized the Biden Administration’s “open-border policies,” which, as he says, “brings many of these threats to our doorstep.”

Wednesday’s upcoming hearing follows last month’s full Committee hearing which focused on the threats posed by the Iranian regime to U.S. homeland security in wake of the terrorist group Hamas’ attack on Israel October 7 that left around 1,200 people dead.
