John Fetterman Campaign Donates to Pennsylvania Treasurer Nominee Despite Apparent Disagreement over Israel

The political campaign committee for Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) donated $1,000 to Erin McClelland, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania Treasurer who said she would not have invested in Israeli Bonds after the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas.

While Republican Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity reportedly has more than $700,000 heading into the general election, Spotlight PA reported McClelland (pictured above, right) only has about $67,000.

Of that $67,000, the outlet reported that $1,000 came from Fetterman’s campaign committee.

Explaining Fetterman’s donation, the outlet reported, “McClelland said she has known Fetterman since 2016, when they both mounted unsuccessful longshot campaigns — his for U.S. Senate, hers for Congress.”

The support from Fetterman, one of the most high-profile Democratic supporters of Israel in the U.S. Senate, comes after McClelland said she would not have purchased Israel Bonds after Hamas launched a campaign against civilians in Israel on October 7, 2023.

In comments made to WHYY after Garrity’s investment of $20 million in Israel Bonds, the Democrat questioned Israel’s honesty and transparency as an investment partner.

“Fiscal policy, monetary policy, investment policy is incredibly complicated and dynamic, and we need thoughtful honest brokers doing this,” said McClelland. The outlet reported McClelland said, if elected, she “would not make new investments in foreign holdings” because, according to McClelland, Pennsylvania lacks “information for how they’re financing this debt, how they’re insuring it, [and] how they’re securing it.”

She claimed to the outlet, “There’s too many factors when you’re dealing with a foreign country that you cannot control for.”

McClelland seemed to acknowledge the gap between her views on Israel and those of Fetterman in her remarks to Spotlight PA.

“John has his beliefs. I have my beliefs,” McClelland told the outlet.

She added, “I think we have far more in common than we have differences, but we do have differences.”

Fetterman is set to be awarded the Presidential Medallion by Yeshiva University, which additionally proclaimed the Democrat a “Hero of Israel” for his advocacy on behalf of the country since the October 7 attacks.
