Matt Boyle: Kamala Harris Campaign Financing May be ‘A Lot Worse Than it Looks’

Matt Boyle, the national political editor at Breitbart News, said Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign finance issues may end up being “a lot worse than it looks” in the coming weeks and months ahead.

On Wednesday, one day after Harris lost to former and president-elect Donald Trump in the general election, Boyle reported that Harris’ campaign fell $20 million in debt despite raising over $1 billion during the course of her campaign.

Boyle has since been told by a Harris staffer that Jen O’Malley Dillon, the Harris campaign chair reportedly “blew through a billion dollars in a few months” and that Rob Flaherty, the deputy campaign manager for the campaign, is “currently shopping around the Kamala fundraising email list to anyone who wants” to try to raise the money back for the campaign.

On Friday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, Boyle said the Harris campaign’s finance issues were flagged after the campaign was found to have been making multiple payments to pay for television ads in the days leading up to the election.

“[The Harris campaign] was making these payments of less than $10,000 over four or five different checks at weird amounts, which was a sign that they were having cash flow issues through their bank account. That was the first sign of this,” Boyle explained.

Boyle went on to explain that he was told by a Harris staffer that the costs for hosting events with celebrities and singers – including Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, and others – were “immense.”

“There’s travel costs, sound and lighting costs, event logistics costs, etc. It’s not like you can just rent out a venue and then just throw them up on the stage. There’s a lot of stuff that goes into that and a lot of costs that goes into it,” Boyle said.

Boyle also said that it has since been revealed to him that several Harris campaign staffers have not been paid as a result of the campaign running out of funds.

“This staffer told me that several staffers haven’t yet been paid. They didn’t pay their own staff. So this is Kamala Harris who claims to be from the middle class or the working class, and she’s not even paying her own team,” Boyle said.

In addition, Boyle pointed out how it remains unclear if Harris’ campaign has paid back the taxpayers for the use of Air Force Two for campaign activity, which would also bring about more debt.

“I would imagine that they’re on the hook for bills to the taxpayers also for the use of Air Force Two and other official resources,” Boyle explained.

“Taxpayers are on the hook, obviously, for use of Air Force Two and other official resources. Campaigns are supposed to pay the taxpayers back for that when it’s used for campaign purposes. It’s totally reasonable that a vice president would use Air Force Two to campaign – that’s how they travel – but again, the campaign is supposed to pay for it. So I don’t know if the taxpayers have gotten fully reimbursed from the now in debt Kamala Harris campaign. That’s going to be a big question moving forward,” Boyle added.

Moving forward, Boyle said he expects there to be “other problems” that become apparent from the Harris campaign’s finances in the coming weeks and months.

“There should be an audit here and Kamala Harris donors, supporters, and staffers should be upset about this,” Boyle said.
