Former Representative Mike Rogers announced Monday that he is running for the Michigan Senate in 2026.
“President Trump needs strong allies in the Senate to help him deliver on the mandate given by the American people,” he said in his announcement on Facebook.
“That means bringing manufacturing jobs back to Michigan, protecting seniors’ social security, lowering the costs of gas, groceries & prescription drugs, and setting our kids up for success by improving the quality of their education. Michigan, let’s get to work,” he added.
This will be the second time Rogers has run for Senate in Michigan.
Last year, he lost to now-Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) by less than 20,000 votes.
Senator Gary Peters (R-MI) said that he would not run for reelection again in 2026.
“We have a long road ahead toward 2026, but getting an early start will make a world of difference,” Rogers said on X.
The Cook Political Playbook rates the race for Michigan’s open Senate seat as a toss up.
According to CNN, Representative Haley Stevens (D-MI-11) expects to announce her intention to run for the Michigan Senate soon. The outlet said she met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) last month.
After Rogers announced his Senate run, Stevens said he would not win.
“Mike Rogers sold out Michigan to get rich and will do nothing to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s chaos,” she said on X. “Michigan rejected him once and we will do so again next year.”
Representative Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI-08), a rumored Democratic candidate, announced last week that she would not seek the Senate but instead run again in the House.
Before Rogers announced his Senate run, he served in the House from 2001 to 2015. He used to head the House Intelligence Committee.
