Ohio Businessman and Republican Politician Bernie Moreno Calls Potential Indictment of Trump a ‘Disastrous Idea’

Ohio Republican politician and businessman Bernie Moreno says that an indictment against former President and 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump would be a “disastrous idea.”

According to a Fox News report, the Manhattan District Attorney‘s office requested a meeting with law enforcement on Friday in anticipation of a potential indictment of Trump this week.

The prospective indictment is a result of the protracted investigation into Trump’s alleged use of hush money in connection with porn star Stormy Daniels.

Moreno, who formerly ran for the U.S. Senate in 2022 to represent Ohio, said that he moved from Bogota, Colombia, a place where the ruling regime’s political opponents are routinely jailed, to the United States, a country that stands for freedom, for liberty, and for equal justice under the law.

“My family left a continent where craven politicians weaponize the justice system to go after their political opponents. I never thought I’d see this in America,” Moreno said.

To keep Daniels from disclosing her 2006 affair with Trump, Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen allegedly paid her $130,000 as part of a non-closure agreement near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump allegedly then paid Cohen back in installments.

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, is allegedly part of a “witch hunt” against Trump, according to the Trump campaign. Moreno says that “what Bragg is doing to Trump is no different than what happens in those Banana Republics.”

“What we are seeing with Alvin Bragg is a weaponization of his elected office. A weaponization of the criminal justice system. To go after a man he clearly hates and to attempt to stifle the will of the American people. It is not up to him who is president of the United States. That decision is up to voters and allowing one man to use the power of his office to go after his political opponents will not end well. It will certainly not end with Donald Trump,” Moreno said.

According to Moreno, every Republican needs to loudly and unequivocally speak out against Trump’s potential indictment.

“This is the kind of disastrous idea that you saw all over South America that we cannot allow to come here to these United States. All Republicans, whether elected or not, should be speaking out clearly and unequivocally about this incredible miscarriage and misuse of our justice system,” Moreno said.

U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH-04) also spoke out about the possible indictment calling it a “sham.”

“God Bless President Trump. Real America knows this is all a sham,” Jordan said.
