U.S. Senator and GOP presidential candidate Tim Scott (R-SC) will join Fox News’ Sean Hannity next week for a town hall.
The Q&A, broadcast from Scott’s home state, airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
“I’m excited to welcome my friend Sean Hannity to South Carolina for an important conversation about the future of our country, my campaign for president, and restoring faith in America,” Scott said in a press release.
Earlier this week, the senator announced a list of more than 140 endorsements from elected officials throughout South Carolina.
“South Carolina conservative leaders are flocking to Tim Scott’s campaign for President because they’ve seen his affirmational life story up close,” said South Carolina State Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey (R-Edgefield). “Tim Scott is the real deal. I know he is the authentic conservative leader we need in the White House right now.
Scott was in Iowa earlier this week, holding a town hall in Pella. He told attendees he could get behind a 15-week federal abortion ban, according to KCCI.
“If I was president of the United States, I would start the conversation with a limit of 15 weeks and then try my best to win the hearts and minds of Americans, to get it any more conservative,” he said.
Cooking with Mike Pence
Former Vice President Mike Pence has a new book deal, according to Fox News.
The GOP presidential candidate plans to co-author “Go Home for Dinner: Advice on How Faith Makes a Family and Family Makes a Life,” with his daughter, Charlotte Pence Bond. The book will be published by Simon & Schuster on November 14, Fox News reported.
“I hope these lessons and stories from our family encourage you to follow your dreams while keeping your family close,” Pence said in a statement. “Strong families are the very heartbeat of America. I believe we can heal our country by putting faith and family first—and it all starts when you go home for dinner.”
Pence has been feasting on rising poll numbers of late. After launching his presidential campaign in Iowa last week, the former vice president is running third in the latest RealClearPolitics average of Republican presidential nomination polls. But at 4.9 percent, he still lags far behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (21.6 percent) and much farther behind his old boss, former President Donald Trump (52 percent).
Ramaswamy Back in the Hawkeye State
Ohio biotech business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy made his seventh swing through Iowa this week since announcing his campaign for president in February.
The 37-year-old political outsider met with Iowa voters in Sioux City Wednesday night, fresh off his nationally watched press conference in Miami. It was near the federal courthouse where Trump was arraigned that Ramaswamy called on his opponents to pledge to pardoning the former president should he be convicted on 37 federal counts related to allegations he mishandled classified documents.
On Thursday, Ramaswamy met with small business owners in Davenport. He reiterated his pledge to get rid of the U.S. Department of Education and his proposal for a constitutional amendment to raise the voting age to 25, with exceptions for 18-to-24 year-olds who commit to military or police service.
DeSantis Taunts Newsom
Trump may be DeSantis’ biggest rival in the GOP presidential nomination chase, but the Florida governor has made time to tweak California uber liberal Governor Gavin Newsom. Of course, Newsom has spent some time trolling DeSantis in recent weeks, particularly on the culture wars and immigration.
On Thursday, DeSantis asked Newsom why he isn’t getting into the presidential primary contest against fellow Democrat, President Joe Biden. Instead of busting his chops, DeSantis said Newsom ought to just make it official, already.
“He has a real serious fixation on the state of Florida,” the governor said, referring to his California counterpart, at a budget signing press conference. “I mean, I think it’s just bizarre that he does that. What I would tell him is, you know what — stop pussyfooting around.”
“Are you going to throw your hat in the ring and challenge Joe? Are you going to get in and do it? Or are you just going to sit on the sidelines?” he added.
Newsom didn’t much care for DeSantis’ decision to fly illegal immigrants to Sacramento. Newsom called for his state to open a criminal investigation into the DeSantis administration’s actions.
Newsom also threatened DeSantis with kidnapping charges over the migrant flights and called him a “small pathetic man,” NBC News reported.
The Republican presidential candidate’s campaign says it is selling T-shirts, apparently with a Newsom theme.
