Tennessee U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty Latest Republican to Join Pledge Against White House Priorities

U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) joined a group of 13 other Republican members of the U.S. Senate in signing a pledge vowing to not “aid and abet” the Biden administration in its “project to tear this country apart.”

The pledge was created last week on May 31 – just one day after former President Donald Trump was found guilty by a Manhattan jury on all 34 counts in the falsification of business records linked to the Stormy Daniels hush money scandal, marking the first time in history that a U.S. president has been convicted of a felony.

“The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways. As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart,” the pledge reads.

“To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people,” the pledge concludes.

As of Friday, the pledge has been signed by Hagerty and other U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Steve Daines (R-MT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Mike Lee (R-UT), JD Vance (R-OH), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Rick Scott (R-FL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Josh Hawley (R-MO).

Hagerty, the most recent senator to sign the pledge, said, “I will not enable an Administration that is weaponizing the justice system against the Republican presidential candidate in unprecedented, un-American ways.”
