Commentary: In New Hampshire, Democrats Debate Who is Angrier and Most Outraged

How many of these people will survive to the next debate?

The question echoed through my mind as I watched the seven remaining (there are a couple more hangers-on but they’ll never be seen again) Democrat presidential candidates debate for the eighth time (at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, hosted by ABC News, WMUR, and Apple News and moderated by George Stephanopoulos, David Muir, Linsey Davis and WMUR-TV political director Adam Sexton) on Friday night.

Commentary: It Is Joe Biden’s Race to Lose as He Leads Every Poll, but Do His Opponents Smell Blood?

by Robert Romano   As the national race for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020 kicks into high gear with debates on June 26 and June 27, the race is Joe Biden’s to lose as he has led every single poll against his Democratic opponents both nationally and in statewide races compiled by Real Clear Politics since the end of April. Biden’s advantage comes as having served as Barack Obama’s vice president from 2009 to 2016, with the highest name identification. At this point in the 2016 cycle, Hillary Clinton was leading all of the polls on the Democratic side, and Jeb Bush was temporarily leading a few polls for the GOP nomination in June 2015 but soon trailed to then-candidate Donald Trump who dominated the field starting in July 2015. Biden is being viewed as the “safe” candidate to take on now President Trump, even as some his utterances and votes on trade issues might make him ill-suited to take on Trump, particularly in the Rust Belt states that gave Trump a majority in the 2016 Electoral College in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Biden voted for NAFTA and granting China permanent normal trade status, and the Obama White…

Bannon Says Biden Is Making ‘Happy Talk’ to Hide His Financial Ties to Chinese Communist Party

Joe Biden is “a useful idiot” for the Chinese Communist Party, Steve Bannon told The John Fredericks Radio Network. The full interview with Bannon is available here. Bannon, with Citizens for the American Republic, has long said it is globalists like Biden who are managing the decline of economies all over the world, Fredericks said. Bannon criticized a story by The Hill as “an outrageous attack” on Trump concerning China. Biden, in Iowa, is trying to “happy talk his way past China.” However, Biden has not addressed his being compromised by China’s communist government and how his son Hunter allegedly took $1.5 billion from the Bank of China. “That’s how the Chinese Communist party does influence peddling,” Bannon said. The Community Party provides capital for politicians. Yet Biden blames Trump for China’s economic war against America, Bannon said. Biden supported NAFTA and every trade deal to destroy middle-class jobs. Trump is the first president to engage the Communist Party in an economic war and bring the supply chain back to the U.S., Bannon said. “He’s the only president who stood up for the middle-class people.” In The Hill story, Biden called Trump an “existential threat” to the nation, but…

Bernie Sanders to be the First 2020 Candidate to Call for Ban on Charter Schools

by Neetu Chandak   Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is set to call for a ban on for-profit charter schools Saturday, which will make him the first 2020 presidential candidate to suggest such a policy. Sanders is slated to argue in an education policy speech in South Carolina Saturday that the increase in charter schools has taken money away from public schools and has disadvantaged the black community. “Charter schools are led by unaccountable, private bodies, and their growth has drained funding from the public school system,” Sanders tweeted Friday. “When we are in the White House we will ban for-profit charter schools.” Charter schools are led by unaccountable, private bodies, and their growth has drained funding from the public school system. When we are in the White House we will ban for-profit charter schools. https://t.co/LGY3ZaWiVm — Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) May 17, 2019 Sanders’s charter school solutions include requiring charters to comply with the same oversight regulations for public schools, supporting unionization for charter school teachers and placing caps on CEO salaries, CNN reported. “As president I will stand with groups like the @NAACP and put a moratorium on federal funding of new charter schools until rules are in…

Amy Klobuchar Tried to Stand Out Among the Democratic Presidential Candidates in a CNN Town Hall

by Grace Carr   Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar tried to stand apart at a CNN town hall Monday evening in Manchester, New Hampshire, emphasizing differences between herself and the slew of Democratic candidates running for president. Klobuchar repeated, “When I’m president,” angling herself as a candidate who can defeat President Donald Trump because she runs in a purple state and can win back the hearts and trust of the midwest. “I didn’t do that by selling out on my principles,” Klobuchar said, citing her three-time reelection. “It is appalling some of the things that were going on,” Klobuchar said, dodging a definitive answer about whether she supports impeachment of the president after the Mueller report dropped Thursday. “We need to have hearings in both the House and the Senate … The impeachment proceedings are up to the House,” Klobuchar added. Amy Klobuchar is non-committal on impeaching President Trump: “I’m not going to predispose things” #KlobucharTownHall https://t.co/UQwyP6fkHS pic.twitter.com/G66yFWmM24 — CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) April 22, 2019 Democrats are divided over whether to push for Trump’s impeachment. Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been a strong proponent of the move. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, meanwhile, cautions Democrats against such efforts. Klobuchar…

Bernie Sanders Admits He’s a Millionaire

by Peter Hasson   Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Democratic presidential candidate, admitted Tuesday that he is a part of the millionaire class. Sanders often rails against millionaires on the campaign stump and opened his 2016 presidential campaign by bragging that he didn’t “have millionaire or billionaire friends.” But Sanders himself is now a millionaire, he acknowledged to The New York Times. “I wrote a best-selling book,” he told the paper. “If you write a best-selling book, you can be a millionaire, too.” Sanders also pledged to release 10 years of his tax returns within the coming week. “April 15 is coming,” Sanders told the Times. “We wanted to release 10 years of tax returns. April 15, 2019, will be the 10th year, so I think you will see them.” Sanders, who owns three houses, has often cited the “proliferation of millionaires and billionaires” in America as evidence that the economy is rigged against working people. “Are we comfortable to see a huge increase in millionaires and billionaires but have more people living in poverty than ever? I know I’m not,” he wrote in a December 2016 tweet. A great nation is judged not by how many millionaires and billionaires…

Democratic Congressman Swalwell Joins White House Race

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell said on Monday he would seek the Democratic nomination for president, joining a crowded field seeking to take on Republican Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Swalwell, a third-term congressman from a California district south of San Francisco, made the announcement during a taping of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which airs later on Monday. The program tweeted a clip of Swalwell saying he was running for president. Swalwell said tackling student debt and gun violence were among the reasons he jumped into the Democratic primary race. “None of that is going to change until we get a leader who is willing to go big on the issues we take on, be bold in the solutions we offer, and do good in the way that we govern. I’m ready to solve these problems. I’m running for president,” Swalwell said. Swalwell, 38, is now among the youngest candidates vying for the 2020 Democratic nomination, along with Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and Representative Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii, both of whom are 37. Thirty-five is the minimum age to serve as U.S. president. Swalwell cited his work on the House Intelligence Committee and…

Possible 2020 Candidate Howard Schultz Says He Doesn’t Believe in Third-Trimester Abortion

by Evie Fordham   Possible 2020 candidate Howard Schultz, who has teased a run as an independent for months, said Thursday he does not believe abortion should occur in the third trimester. “I recognize that every woman has — this is such a personal issue, and it’s between her and her god as to what that decision should be, and in my view there should be no abortion that is in the last trimester,” Schultz said during a town hall that aired on Fox News. He said the Supreme Court has already decided the abortion question “in many ways” and seemed reluctant to call himself pro-choice, saying, “I have been a person that is pro-choice.” “President Clinton said something a long time ago that I think does apply, and he said abortion should be safe, legal and rare. And that’s where I am. Thank you very much,” Schultz continued. Moderator Martha MacCallum followed up by asking the former Starbucks CEO if he was afraid he would lose support on the right by describing himself as pro-choice. “Do you worry at all that, you know, when you want to court Republicans, that even just being pro-choice is going to cross you…

Joe Biden in 2018: ‘Nothing Justifies’ Touching a Woman ‘Without Her Consent’

by Peter Hasson   Former Vice President Joe Biden, who is currently under fire for his reported habit of touching women without their consent, said in 2018 that there is no justification for touching women without their consent. Four women have come forward to say Biden made them uncomfortable by invading their personal space, including grabbing their shoulders and smelling their hair. “Nothing justifies a man laying a hand on a woman without her consent. Look, you need consent,” Biden said in an April 2018 video interview with feminist media outlet Makers. He offered several examples of out-of-bounds behavior, ranging from rape to unwanted touching. “If the woman is totally drunk and inebriated, she can’t give consent, it’s rape. It’s rape if you cannot give consent. It is assault. A woman could get up and walk down the street here stark naked, no man has a right to lay a hand on her,” Biden said. “There is no justification. She can be arrested for indecent exposure, but no man has a right to lay their hand on [her],” he added. Biden pledged Wednesday to be more careful about respecting “personal space” in a video he posted to Twitter. “Social norms…
