Leahy Tells Bannon Texas Gov. Abbott’s Response to Supreme Court’s Decision on Border Wire Sounds a Lot Like Andrew Jackson

Editor-in-Chief and CEO of The Tennessee Star Michael Patrick Leahy joined Steve Bannon’s War Room on Wednesday to discuss Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s response to the Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling in favor of the Biden administration, which allows Border Patrol agents to cut through or move razor wire the state installed on its border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing.

In a statement released Wednesday, Abbott argued President Joe Biden has “refused to enforce” current federal laws protecting states, “including immigration laws on the books right now.”

“President Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants…For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary,” Abbott added. “The Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other Texas personnel are acting on that authority, as well as state law, to secure the Texas border.”

On Bannon’s War Room, Leahy compared Abbott’s response to the ruling to former President Andrew Jackson.

“When the Supreme Court made a decision that Andrew Jackson didn’t like, he said, ‘The Supreme Court has made its decision – now let them enforce it,’” Leahy explained, adding that Texas Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton may be working on a plan to impede the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“Now, I think that there are a lot of clever attorneys working with Attorney General Paxton in Texas and also with Governor Abbott. I think there are a number of things they could do that would impede that particular ruling,” Leahy explained. “They could constrain [the Border Patrol Agents] out of time that they get to cut [the wire] and put them right back up, and they can add more. They’re working on a philosophy like that right now, I think.”
