The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) took more than a year to open an investigation into allegedly intentional racial segregation in Atlanta Public Schools and purported retaliation against parents who complained.
The feds may soon face a similar complaint: keeping predominantly black and white elementary schools apart in a summer program intended to mitigate learning loss due to COVID-19 policies.

Greater Georgia, an organization focused on registering new voters and started by former Senator Kelly Loeffler, detailed an effort between Atlanta Public Schools and New Georgia Project to teach students about “restrictive” voter identification laws.
The New Georgia Project, which has close connections to Democrat Stacey Abrams, targeted approximately 2,000 high school students.

Kila Posey, a parent whose child attends Mary Lin Elementary School in Atlanta, filed a federal complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, after discovering some classes were separated based on race.
According to Posey, the school’s principal, Sharyn Briscoe, was placing black and white students in separate classes with separate teachers.
