Governor Doug Ducey Fills Seven Court Positions During Final Week in Office

During his final week in office, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) filled several court position vacancies across Arizona, including the Arizona Court of Appeals and the Yuma County Superior Court.

“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of six new judges to the Arizona Court of Appeals,” said Ducey. “These new judges will provide the much needed resources for the Court of Appeals to handle its growing caseload as more and more people choose Arizona as a place to live, work, and start a business.”

Ohio Bill Looks to Require Dementia Training for Police and First Responders

In order to ensure Ohioans with dementia receive proper treatment lawmakers are working to pass a bill requiring police officers and first responders to be educated in effective communication tactics.

House Bill (HB) 23 sponsored by State Representatives Phil Plummer (R-Dayton) and Thomas West (D-Canton) aims to develop education and require specialized training for first responders addressing difficult situations for individuals with dementia.

Representative Ben Toma Files Complaint Against Unconstitutional Fair Housing Code Amendment

Arizona House Speaker-Elect Ben Toma (R-Peoria) filed a complaint against the City of Tucson (COT) for amending its Fair Housing Code in a way he said is unconstitutional.

“The adopted ordinance violates state law and our Constitution. To put it plainly, no matter the reason, Arizona’s ninety-one cities and towns are bound by the laws of this state. We hold this expectation for our citizens, and we will do the same for our local governments,” said Toma.

Arizona Executes Frank Atwood 35 Years After Conviction for Kidnap and Murder of 8-Year-Old Vicki Lynne Hoskinson

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) today announced the execution by lethal injection of death row inmate Frank Atwood.

“The execution took place at 10:16 a.m. at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Florence. Atwood was sentenced to death nearly 35 years ago and exhausted all appellate remedies after lengthy and numerous post-conviction proceedings,” Brnovich said in a statement. 

Brnovich shared words expressing his condolences to the family of Vicki Lynne Hoskinson, the 8 year old Tucson-area girl Atwood kidnapped and murdered in 1984.
