Body camera footage released by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office shows a harrowing 20-minute gun battle during which two of its deputies were shot after responding to a welfare check call.

“I am releasing the following video synopsis of the assault on Deputy Corbin Smith and Deputy Edward Walker on June 11, 2024 on Jacob Springs Boulevard in Rockford,” said Blount County Sheriff Sheriff James Lee Berrong on Facebook, attaching the video.

Flags at Half Staff for Fallen Blount County Deputy, Suspect Taken into Custody After Manhunt

Gov. Bill Lee (R) Wednesday announced that the flag at the State Capitol will fly at half staff in honor of a fallen Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy who was killed in the line of duty. 

“Today, flags over the State Capitol will be lowered in remembrance of Deputy Greg McGowan, who laid down his life to protect & serve Tennesseans. Maria & I continue to lift his family & loved ones up in prayer,” Lee said on X, formerly Twitter.
