U.S. Rep. Mark Green Updates Constituents at Brentwood Town Hall

BRENTWOOD — U.S. Rep. Mark Green, a Republican representing Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District, held a town hall meeting in Brentwood Friday and updated constituents about what he’s done since he took office in January. About 50 people attended. Green told audience members he’s sponsored or co-sponsored the following bills during his short tenure in Congress: • A bill that would protect Gold Star families during federal government shutdowns. Gold Star families have lost family members fighting the War on Terror and receive federal benefits. • A bill that targets drug cartels. Green said there are three drug cartels that operate like terrorist organizations, and they also intimidate law enforcement. Green did not identify the three cartels. Green’s bill would formally label these cartels as terrorist organizations, he said. Green went on to say “the resources of the federal government can pounce on them and seize their financial assets.” U.S. Republican President Donald Trump is still considering whether to go along with the bill, Green said. • A bill to keep the U.S. Supreme Court limited to nine justices. • A bill pertaining to notorious drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. The federal government seized $14 billion of “El Chapo’s” assets.…

The Tennessee Star Wants to Hear from Parents, Students, and Teachers for Eyewitness Accounts of Alleged ‘Racist Incident’ at Sunset Middle School in Brentwood

An alleged “racist incident” occurred in January at Brentwood’s Sunset Middle School, according to Friday’s Tennessean, five months after the Williamson County School System launched a system-wide “Cultural Competency Series” of In-Service training days for teachers. Allegedly, some students at the school linked arms in between classes, formed a human chain, and then barred non-white students from passing as a play on U.S. President Donald Trump’s border wall. As The Tennessee Star reported, the In-service training for teachers included several videos the school system created that focused on “white privilege.” The Tennessean offered rather thin evidence to support their assertion that a racist incident had, in fact, occurred Jan. 18. The paper’s evidence included on-the-record statements from two members of the WCS cultural competency committee. Neither of the two women quoted apparently witnessed the alleged incident. Williamson County Schools addressed the details of the alleged incident in a way that was unusual. A Tennessean reporter emailed school system officials to confirm the event. But rather than respond to The Tennessean reporter, WCS officials printed out the email and someone hand wrote “Yes it happened,” on it and included that document — unsolicited —in a package to The Tennessee Star, along…

BREAKING: Two Williamson County School Teachers Resign After School Director Mike Looney Holds Secret Meeting Closed to Media

The two Williamson County school teachers who asked students to hand out tasks to their pretend slaves have reportedly resigned from their jobs because of a “strong backlash from the community.” This, after parents met with Williamson County School Superintendent Mike Looney Tuesday night — a meeting reportedly off-limits to the press. Brentwoodhomepage.com reported the news Wednesday. As reported, the two teachers are Kim Best and Susan Hooper, and they teach at Sunset Middle School in Brentwood. The parents reportedly called for Best’s and Hooper’s resignations, according to Brentwoodhomepage.com The website quoted Inneta Gaines, who said the county school system has a problem with “cultural insensitivity.” “I don’t have a student at Sunset Middle, but I have friends that have students there,” Gaines reportedly said. “One in particular, there was an incident that happened about building a wall in a classroom, this [being] the Trump wall. This is stuff that’s going on in our school that doesn’t get brought to light.” Gaines told the website it “was not an appropriate assignment to give, especially in the political climate we’re in, especially with the diversity training that they (teachers) are supposed to be getting.” As The Tennessee Star reported this week,…

Car Thefts Rise in Brentwood Due to People Leaving Keys Inside

Too many people in Brentwood leave their keys in their automobiles unattended and car thieves notice, said that city’s Police Chief Jeff Hughes. As of the middle of October of this year, Brentwood Police tallied 21 vehicles stolen in 2018 compared to 18 stolen all last year, Hughes said. “Hot wiring a car is almost impossible nowadays. This is happening because people are leaving their vehicles with their keys in their cars,” Hughes told The Tennessee Star. “I think people sometimes have a false sense of security in an area that is consistently ranked by certain sources to be one of the safest cities in America, if not Tennessee. They will become complacent and leave valuables in their cars, leave their vehicles unlocked and, if not their primary set of keys, they may leave a spare set of keys in the car.” The thieves are usually juveniles coming in from Davidson County, some as young as 13 and 14-years old, Hughes said. That’s why these crimes are more likely to happen in the northern parts of Brentwood, nearest to Davidson County, Hughes said. This was among many topics Hughes and other area law enforcement officers addressed at a recent roundtable…

Dave Ramsey Endorses ‘True Conservative’ Marsha Blackburn for Senate

Financial advice guru Dave Ramsey of Brentwood formally announced his endorsement of his “good friend” U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-07) for the U.S. Senate on Friday. Watch his endorsement: Ramsey says, “I’ve known Marsha since way back in 2001 when she and I and a bunch of others fought against a state income tax here in the state of Tennessee. I learned then a couple things about Marsha. Number one – she’s a fighter, she likes to win. Number two – she’s a conservative, and a true conservative, and she’s proven that in her public service over and over again. Marsha stands for family values … Marsha stands for Second Amendment rights … Marsha has a voice of common sense, and this is the kind of person we need as a Senator for the state of Tennessee …  I’ll be backing Marsha Blackburn, my friend for a long time, for all the right reasons, to be the next Senator for the state of Tennessee.” In response to the endorsement, Marsha Blackburn said in a statement, “Dave Ramsey is a brilliant economic mind, trusted counsel, and I’m honored to have his continued support as we work to win in November.” On his…
