New Law Blocks Nashville’s Supermajority Requirement for Speedway Demolition

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has signed a bill to block Metro Nashville’s requirement for a council supermajority vote on demolition at the Fairgrounds Speedway.

Nashville’s council is expected to soon hear a proposal on Bristol Motor Speedway rebuilding the grandstand and track at the Fairgrounds Speedway in order to bring a NASCAR race back to the fairgrounds.

Bill Would Block Nashville’s Supermajority Requirement for Speedway Demolition

The Tennessee House is expected to vote on a bill Monday that would prevent Metro Nashville from requiring a super majority vote to approve demolition to build a new Fairgrounds Speedway.

Currently, any project that requires demolition would require a super majority vote of Nashville’s council. That could impact a Bristol Motor Speedway project to rebuild the Fairgrounds Speedway.

Nashville Mayor’s Office Announces Tax Deal for $75M Fairgrounds Speedway Renovation

The Nashville mayor’s office presented to the Fair Board the tax deal for a $75 million renovation of the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in hopes of bringing a NASCAR race back to the site.

The Fair Board will be asked to vote on the lease, term sheet and approval of bonds in early 2023. If approved, it will next go to Nashville’s Metro Council for approval and then the Sports Authority before returning to Mayor John Cooper for his signature.

Bristol Motor Speedway Plans to Host Another Major College Football Game

Bristol Motor Speedway has big plans for the future and they don’t involve NASCAR. Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith and BMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell revealed plans to host another football game at Bristol Motor Speedway in the near future. No teams have been announced yet, but it would likely be another college football game rather than an NFL game. Virginia Tech and Tennessee played at the Battle of Bristol on Sept. 10, 2016 in front of the largest crowd in history to watch a football game. The Volunteers won the game 45-24 in front of 156,990 fans.

Kyle Busch Wins NASCAR Series Race at Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tennessee — Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday and The Tennessee Star was there to capture all the sounds and sights.   Before the evening officially kicked off, fans were able to sign the starting line with greeting and well-wishes.   Dale Earnhardt Jr., surrounded by a few of the Monster Energy girls, makes his entrance during drivers introductions at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. has announced his retirement at the end of the 2017 NASCAR racing season, making this his last night Bristol race.
