Pennsylvania State Senate Passes Bill to Help Schools Ban Cell Phones

The Pennsylvania State Senate on Wednesday passed SB 1207, which seeks to amend the Public School Code of 1949 in order to establish a Cell Phone Lockable Bag Pilot Program that would encourage schools to restrict cell phone use among students.

Introduced by State Senator Ryan Aument (R-Lancaster), the legislation would “provide funding to cover the costs of purchasing secure cell phone lockable bags,” which will be available to schools throughout the commonwealth who establish a “policy that prohibits the use of cell phones during school time” and requires students to store their phones in “lockable bags.”

School Bullies Could Be Punished with Misdemeanor Under New Tennessee Law

A new law that will take effect on July 1 could put school bullies behind bars.

HB 2590, which was sponsored by State Representative Lowell Russell (R-Vonore), “makes bullying and cyber-bullying offenses subject to the same penalties as harassment; requires an officer to make a report of bullying and notify a parent or guardian when victim is a minor,” according to its summary.

Anti-Bullying Virginia Bill Aims to Enhance Protections for Specified Classes of Students

 Virginia’s House of Delegates Education Committee voted on several influential bills Monday morning, including one on student bullying, the implications of which may be unclear.

The legislation was created with the belief that naming groups of students often targeted most by bullying would force schools to proactively develop a plan for responding to specific bullying situations quickly and appropriately.

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer on Friday formally accused Hunter Biden’s team of of trying to “bully and intimidate” impeachment investigators as he formally rejected the presidential son’s demands to skip a transcribed interview with Congress and move straight to public testimony.

In a letter joined by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Comer told Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell that the first son must show up as required by his subpoena for a transcribed interview on Dec. 13 or face legal consequences.

New York Attorney General Sends Threatening Letter to Church Suggesting Their ‘ReAwaken America Tour’ Is ‘Extremist’ and ‘Racially Motivated’

A letter sent by New York Attorney General Letitia James to Cornerstone Church in Batavia, New York, threatened the church, in advance of its hosting a ReAwaken America Tour event this past weekend, with investigation and prosecution of “acts of violence, intimidation, threats, or harassment” toward others based on “a belief or perception” of characteristics including “race,” “national origin,” “gender,” and “sexual orientation.”“national origin,” “gender,” and “sexual orientation.”

“As New York’s top law enforcement officer, I have significant concerns that the ReAwaken America Tour’s upcoming event at the Cornerstone Church in Batavia, New York on August 12 and 13 could spur extremist or racially motivated violence,” James said in the letter sent to Clay Clark, organizer of the tour, and General Michael Flynn, who travels with it, in care of the church.

And rightfully so, said Kalman. That dubious distinction goes to her husband. Tennessee Department of Children’s Services Opens New Investigation Into Abuse Claims At Brentwood Academy

  The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services has opened a new investigation into alleged rape and sexual abuse committed against a male student by other male students at Brentwood Academy. DCS spokesman Rob Johnson told The Tennessee Star the new investigation was opened based on new information the department received late Wednesday. The department had investigated the case in April 2015, but Johnson could not provide more information because of confidentiality reasons. The victim’s mother filed a $30 million lawsuit against the elite private Christian school in Williamson County on Aug. 4 in Williamson County Circuit Court. The mother is identified as Jane Doe and her son, the victim, is identified as John Doe. The defendants are Brentwood Academy and several administrators and faculty members. According to the suit, John Doe was a sixth-grader at Brentwood Academy during the 2014-2015 school year when he was abused by four eighth-grade boys, who were 14 and 15 years old. On four separate dates in January and February 2015, “harassment, sexual assault, and rape were perpetrated in the locker room without adult supervision upon Plaintiff John Doe when he would only be in his shirt and underwear,” the suit says.
