California School Board Plans to Open New Planned Parenthood on High School Campus

In California, the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD) is drawing up plans to install a new Planned Parenthood clinic on a high school campus within the district.

Breitbart reports that the district is eyeing the John Glen High School, which is located in a district that’s 90 percent minority, with 80 percent of that percentage being Latino.

The proposal for the new site specifies that services provided would include diagnosing sexually transmitted diseases, prescription and distribution of contraceptives, and the “insertion” of particular types of contraceptives such as IUDs. However, the proposal notes that staff at the clinic would be allowed to refer high school students to Planned Parenthood facilities off-campus for “services not offered” at the high school location.

But the district’s proposal claims that, ultimately, “under California law minors have the right to consent to reproductive health services without parental consent or notification.”

In response to the announcement, president of the education watchdog group Parens Defending Education (PDE) Nicole Neily released a statement saying that “families and taxpayers should be horrified that the Norwalk-La Mirada USD is considering a partnership with Planned Parenthood.”

“The fact that the contract specifically notes that ‘under California law minors have the right to consent to reproductive health services without parental consent or notification’ is appalling in and of itself,” Neily continued. “To add insult to injury, there is no way for parents to EVER obtain this information, as the contract asserts that all medical records are to be maintained by Planned Parenthood. The Norwalk-La Mirada school board should be ashamed that this contract is even up for consideration.”

Yes, Every Kid

The move from the school district is most likely in response to the historic decision by the Supreme Court to overturn the prior decisions in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, thus eliminating the nationwide legalization of abortion and returning the matter to the individual states.
