Maury County Adult Caregiver Charged with Financial Exploitation of Elderly Patients

Woman Suspect

An adult caregiver in Maury County has been arrested for allegedly draining the bank accounts of her home care patients, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

“In June 2023, after receiving referrals from Adult Protective Services, TBI agents initiated an investigation into an allegation that a caregiver for several home care patients in Maury County was using the victims’ debit cards to make fraudulent, personal charges on an online gambling site,” according to a TBI release. “The investigation identified Cynthia Dobbins as the caregiver responsible for the theft from the victims’ accounts.”

On December 14, 2023, Dobbin was indicted on four counts of financial exploitation of an elderly/vulnerable adult and four counts of theft of $1,000 or less.

Shortly thereafter, she turned herself into the Maury County Jail, and she was released after posting a $10,000 bond on December 29, 2023.

TBI did not say when Dobbins is next scheduled to appear in court.

On Wednesday, TBI announced that it arrested another Tennessee nurse for the alleged negligent homicide of an elderly patient in her care.

“After a referral from Adult Protective Services, TBI agents began investigating an allegation that in March 2022, a certified nurse aide who worked in a care facility in Clarksville failed to properly use a lift while attempting to move a patient,” TBI said, as reported by The Tennessee Star. “As a result, that resident, Patricia Oliver, sustained a fall that caused her serious bodily injury, ultimately resulting in her death. The investigation identified Takesha Tucker as the nurse aide responsible for the incident.”

Tucker was indicted a year later, in March of 2023, but was not arrested until earlier this week.

She was apprehended without incident by the Kennesaw Police Department in Georgia during a routine traffic stop, and is being held in the Cobb County Jail while she awaits extradition back to Montgomery County, Tennessee.
