U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03) was appointed to serve as a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee this week.
The Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, a subdivision of the House Appropriations Committee, funds America’s military and national defense.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK-04) said he was “pleased” to appoint Fleischmann to the subcommittee.
“I have served with Chuck for over a decade on the Appropriations Committee, and I know he will bring his strong conservative values to the subcommittee as we fight to ensure that America’s military has the tools and resources it needs to protect the United States and our citizens. His dedication and knowledge will greatly support us as we build a responsible fiscal path forward,” Cole said.
Fleischmann said he was “honored” to be appointed to the subcommittee, adding that there is “no more important task than ensuring that America’s military and defenses are strong and second to none in the world.”

“As the world continues to become more dangerous and our adversaries become more emboldened, it’s absolutely critical for our safety and the peace of the world that America remains strong and militarily ready to respond to any aggression against ourselves or our allies,” Fleischmann said.
“America’s Republican House Appropriations majority is committed to building up our military and making America strong again. I will continue to fight for our conservative Tennessee Volunteer Spirit and values, which include a strong military that’s ready at a moment’s notice to protect our nation, our citizens, and our interests around the world,” Fleischmann added.
Fleischmann also said his role on the subcommittee will allow East Tennesseans to have “an important say in rebuilding our military, strengthening our nuclear deterrent, and expanding our defense industrial base that creates thousands of good-paying jobs.”
In addition to his appointment to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Fleischmann also chairs the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee and serves as a senior member of the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
The Tennessee congressman is also a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and the Energy Subcommittee.

Defund the naming commission would be a good start…
defund the naming commission and return our military base names and the Reconciliation Monument in Arlington. That would be a good start. Need better military leadership.
I guess now we know why on final passage last week of the underlying bill (HR 7888, roll call vote no. 119) to extend section 702 warrantless spying on United States citizens under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), Charles Fleischmann voted FOR this bill along with a majority of the Democrats {147 Democrats} including Tennessee’s lone Democrat, Steve Cohen, when most of Tennessee’s Republican delegation voted AGAINST the final version of the bill {i.e., Diana Harshbarger, Tim Burchett, Scott DesJarlais, Andy Ogles, and Mark Green}. This final form of the bill did NOT contain the protections to United States citizens that was contained in the Biggs amendment no. 1 (which was defeated as is recorded in roll call vote no.114, by a majority of the Democrats {126} and a minority of the Republicans {86} including the vote of the Republican Speaker Johnson himself who cast the decisive vote that defeated the amendment, the final vote being 212 to 212).
Yes, Fleischmann was appointed to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee (the body which funds America’s military and national defense), a subdivision of the House Appropriations Committee, by its Committee Chairman, Tom Cole, but Cole is a close ally of the Republican Speaker Johnson, with whom he regularly consults. Cole would not have appointed Fleischmann to this House Appropriations Committee’s defense subcommittee post without the prior approval of Speaker Johnson.
This is the ‘hardball’ version of how the ‘game’ of politics is ‘played’ in the D. C. ‘swamp’. Congressman Fleischmann gained significant power by his aforesaid action/vote last week, and the American people must suffer at least two more years of warrantless spying (contrary to the principles of the Fourth Amendment of the U. S. Constitution) by the FBI, and no telling which other federal agencies such as the NSA et al. In the latest year for which we have numbers, the FBI itself admitted to conducting 278,000 such warrantless searches under section 702 of FISA in that one year alone, including President Trump himself.
