Nashville Electric Services Continue Work to Restore Power after Weekend Storms Cause Nearly 30,000 Outages

Nashville Electric Services (NES) continued working on restoring power across Music City on Monday after a wave of severe weather swept across the area on Friday and Saturday.

Just before 5 p.m. on Monday, NES announced that the number of active outages across Nashville was 889 – significantly lower than the nearly 30,000 outages reported across Nashville following Friday night’s storm.

NES also posted a graphic to social media on Monday explaining that customers still without power may need an electrician to repair equipment not under NES’s responsibility.

“Friday and Saturday’s storms and subsequent wind gusts did a lot of damage to power equipment, homes and businesses. If you are still without electricity, it is important for you to understand the equipment outside your structure,” NES explained.

NES explained that the company will repair power lines and meters, however, equipment including feeder lines, weatherheads, masts, and meter bases are at the responsibility of home and business owners, and must be repaired before NES can restore power.

“If you have damage in these areas, you will need to contact an electrician as soon as possible to facilitate that portion of the repairs,” NES added.

Over the weekend, NES crews were fully staffed and additional crews arrived from Kentucky to assist with the restoration efforts. Following Friday’s storm, NES was able to get outages down from 30,000 to around 4,000, just before Saturday’s storm hit – putting outages back up at the 30,000 mark.

NES urges its customers to report any type of outage at www.nespower.com or by calling 615-736-6900.

NES also reminded its customers, ”If you have been notified that your power is back on and it’s not, please let us know by re-reporting your outage. It could mean that there is additional equipment damage that we need to assess.”
