Despite Voting Record, Slotkin Pushes Back on ‘Partisan Politics’ in New Ad

Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-MI-08), who is running in the newly drawn 7th Congressional District, released a new ad pushing back on “partisan politics.”

Additionally, she touted her history in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and working for both President George Bush (R) and President Barack Obama (D).

“Representing Michigan is the most important thing I’ve ever done. I’m Elissa Slotkin and serving in Congress allows me to continue serving the country I love. As a CIA officer, I was proud to work with two presidents, one from each party, and I served three tours in Iraq alongside our military. I approve this message because I refuse to let partisan politics hold this country back, because when we put our heads down and work together, there’s no problem we can’t solve. Work with us,” Slotkin said in the 30-second ad.

However, according to her Republican opponent, Slotkin’s voting record does not indicate much bipartisan success.

“Her voting record makes her one of the most progressive Democrats in Congress and her support for corporate welfare, defunding the police, slashing domestic energy, illegal immigration, and higher inflation, is crushing Mid-Michigan families,” Republican congressional candidate Tom Barrett’s website says.

Based on information from ProPublica, Slotkin has voted the same as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi roughly 98 percent of the time. Furthermore, according to fivethirtyeight, she has supported President Joe Biden’s policies 100 percent of the time.

Yes, Every Kid

“There is nothing bipartisan about voting for every single one of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi’s destructive policies.” added NRCC Spokesman Mike Berg.

A recent poll gave Republican challenger Barrett a 2-point lead over the Democrat incumbent.

However, Slotkin maintains one key advantage: fundraising. Punchbowl News detailed that she hauled in $1.2 million during the previous fundraising quarter – a number that is expected to be substantially larger than Barrett’s.
