Diana Harshbarger Introduces Bill Trying to Help Improve Health Care in Rural Areas

U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-1) introduced the Rural Physician Workforce Production Act of 2022 on Thursday.

In a bipartisan move, Harshbarger teamed up with U.S. Representative Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ-1) to introduce H.R. 8508, which is described in a statement as “bipartisan legislation that improves Medicare reimbursements and enhances the current structure of the Medicare-funded graduate medical education (GME) program to bring more medical residents and doctors to rural areas.”

Three Tennessee U.S. House Members Sign Letter Questioning Federal College Funds Tied to Chinese Government

Three Tennessee members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter expressing their concern and questioning U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin about federal taxpayer dollars that go to institutions of higher learning with ties to the Chinese government.

Republican Study Committee Chair Jim Banks (R-IN-03) led the letter, also signed by Tennessee U.S. House delegation members Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01), Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), and Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04).

Tennessee Republican Leaders React to Inflationary Rate Rising to Highest Level Since 1981

Tennessee Republican leaders took the Biden administration and Democrats to task on Wednesday over reports that the inflationary rate rose to 9.1%, the highest level since 1981.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 1.3 percent in June after rising one percent in May, reported on Wednesday, July 13.

Late last week the House of Representatives passed legislation that Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) co-sponsored that would, if enacted into law, instruct the U.S. Department of Agriculture to maintain a contract library for beef cattle. “This bill would provide additional market clarity for beef producers by instructing the U.S. Department of Agriculture [USDA] to maintain a contract library for beef cattle. This commonsense legislation will make agricultural businesses operate more efficiently and ensure beef producers that they are getting fair deals when negotiating with meatpackers,” Harshbarger told her constituents in an emailed newsletter.

Rep. Diana Harshbarger Introduces Bill to Increase Transparency Within the Department of Homeland Security

U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) introduced a bill on Tuesday that is aimed to increase the level of transparency associated with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The legislation, known as the DHS Contract Reporting Act of 2021, would instruct DHS to publish a public, daily report of all headquarters and component contracts related to the agency that exceeds $4 million.

Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) introduced a bill in the House of Representatives on Tuesday that would prohibit the federal use of a COVID-19 vaccine passport or any other similar required proof of vaccination.

“Vaccine passports are a restriction on individual liberties, period,” Harshbarger said of the attempts by some governments to require proof of vaccination in certain circumstances.

Representative Harshbarger on Visit to Border: Crisis Far Worse Than Reported

Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) claimed that the border crisis is far worse than what has been reported. Sunday, Harshbarger visited the RGV sector of the southern border. She relayed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is flying illegal immigrants further into the country, without COVID-19 tests or legitimate ID and no clarity of who is footing the bill. She also reported that there are an estimated 15,000 “got aways” in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector alone – illegal immigrants who were observed breaching the border but not apprehended or turned back.

Seven other members of the House Homeland Security Committee joined Harshbarger – Representatives Carlos Gimenez (R-FL-26), Peter Meijer (R-MI-03), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-02), Michael Guest (R-MS-03), Andrew Clyde (R-GA-09), John Katko (R-NY-24), and Kat Cammack (R-FL-03).

Representative Harshbarger Condemns East Tennessee State University Basketball Team for Kneeling During National Anthem

The behavior of East Tennessee State University (ETSU) basketball has caught the ire of their congresswoman. Freshman Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) criticized the basketball team on Thursday after the team’s practice of kneeling in protest to the national anthem was made known. 

ETSU Head Coach Jason Shay supported his team’s decision, stating that the country’s soldiers and people of color have experienced similar levels of “sacrifice, fear, pain, anxiety, [and] loss.”

Representative-Elect Diana Harshbarger Joins Coalition to Object to Electoral College Results

Representative-elect Diana Harshbarger announced Thursday that she will object to the Electoral College results during next week’s certification.

“On Jan 6 when the Electoral College meets, I will join my other GOP [colleagues] in objecting,” wrote Harshbarger. “I stand for free and fair elections, and I am ready to fight for Tennessee and our Country.”
