Tennessee U.S. Reps. Burchett, DesJarlais, Green, Harshbarger, Ogles, and Rose Vote No on McCarthy’s Fiscally Reckless Continuing Resolution, Hagerty and Blackburn Vote No in Senate

Six of Tennessee’s nine member delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives voted “no” on Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s last-minute 45 day Continuing Resolution Saturday afternoon. Late Saturday, the U.S. Senate passed the bill in an 88 to 9 vote, just a few hours before the midnight deadline when the current fiscal year ends.

President Biden is expected to sign the bill, thereby continuing to fund the operations of the federal government until November 15 with no significant cuts in spending sought by fiscal conservatives.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN-2), Rep. Diane Harshbarger (R-TN-1), Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-4), Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN-5), Rep. John Rose (TN-6), and Rep. Mark Green (R-TN-7) all voted ‘No.’

Rep Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-3), Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN-7), and Rep. Steve Cohen (R-TN-8) all voted ‘Yes.’

“Both Senator Marsha Blackburn and Senator Bill Hagerty were two out of nine U.S. lawmakers in the Senate who voted against the bill,” WSMV reported.

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), a candidate for the Republican nomination for President, was one of two senators who did not vote on the continuing resolution.

The surprise move by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to bring the resolution for a vote undermined efforts by fiscal conservatives to pass a budget going through the regular order, and broke a promise he made to the 21 “rebels” – of whom Tennessee’s Ogles was one – to secure their vote and win the speakership on the 15th ballot back in January.

Yes, Every Kid

The bill passed the House by a 335 to 91 margin, with 90 Republicans and just one Democrat voting “No.”

” The status quo in Washington must end. Record-high inflation is hurting Americans from coast to coast. Meanwhile, nations across the globe are falling away from the dollar and running towards the yuan. This isn’t just an economic issue; it’s a national security issue. We can’t continue down the road of record deficits and record debt, ” Rep. Green said after his “No” vote was recorded.

“Deficits have consequences that will affect not just our generation, but our children and grandchildren’s. That’s why I voted no on this clean Continuing Resolution. Washington is out of control—it’s long past time to rein it in,” Green added.

Would it be that difficult for Kustoff’s district to elect a Christian?

My Rep used to be DeJarlais. After re-districitng, I got stuck with that clunker, Fleischmann. Fleischmann’s district includes Chattanooga, so I guess we’re stuck with this useless …..

Although I live in cesspool California, I admire Senators Blackburn and Hagerty for voting no.. The spending in Washington is out of control and McCarthy is weak as Speaker of the House.

I am proud of these Tennessee members of Congress. John Rose is my rep.

Congressman Kustoff was the former law partner to Memphis Mayor. Kustoff is a RINO! Hopefully a conservative primary opponent will challenge him in a primary. Kustoff is out if step with Tennesseans and their fiscal values!
