GOP-Aligned Group Spent Money Against Endorsed, Incumbent Minnesota Republicans Again

A Republican-aligned committee once again spent money against two Republican candidates for the Minnesota House of Representatives, with both of them going on to lose to their Democratic challengers in the general election.

The Minnesota Jobs Coalition Legislative Fund, an independent expenditure committee affiliated with the Minnesota Jobs Coalition, spent a combined $55,134 in TV and direct mail advertising against incumbent Rep. Erik Mortensen and newcomer Mark Bishofsky during their primary elections, according to data from the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board.

Minnesota Woman Who Lost Job After School Board Comment Files Lawsuit Alleging First Amendment Violation

A Shakopee woman, Tara McNeally, who was fired from her job after questioning her children’s school board, has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court against the school and her former employer. The lawsuit filed by McNeally reportedly asks for “compensatory and punitive damages,” and seeks to prohibit the defendants from “engaging in wrongful conduct.” McNeally is requesting a jury trial for those involved.

Governor Walz Initiates Special Session, Doesn’t Want to Include ‘Additional, Controversial Topics’

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) says he does not want to include “additional, controversial topics” in a proposed special session. Walz finally made the move to have a special session, something that Republican lawmakers have been asking him to do for months.

In the letter to Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller (R-Winona), Walz wrote, “A special session should be focused on areas where we can find agreement, while areas of disagreement can be addressed in the regular session.” The governor is suggesting calling a special session on November 29, if Miller agrees to his terms, which confine the actions of the session to a drought relief bill, a frontline worker pay bill, and a COVID relief bill. Walz is also requiring that the session last no more than three days.

Four Minnesota Legislators Sign Letter Asking for 2020 Forensic Election Audit of All 50 States

Four Minnesota legislators signed a letter asking for a forensic audit of the 2020 election in all 50 states. The letter has been signed by 138 legislators within 38 states. The Minnesota legislators who signed the letter include State Senator Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo Township), Representative Glenn Gruenhagen (R-Glencoe), Representative Erik Mortensen (R-Shakopee), and Representative John Poston (R-Lake Shore).
