MURFREESBORO, Tennessee–Christians flocked to Murfreesboro Square Friday evening to sing along with favorite contemporary Christian songs led by the worship team from Experience Community Church.
With arms in the air in praise, concert-goers sang and swayed along with the music. The “No Other Name Worship Night” featured communion and even baptisms at the end of the evening in two pools set up by the stage.
“I just wanted to be with like-minded people praising the Lord in the middle of our city,” said Jaymie Seay, who attends Experience and was at Friday’s event with other members of the Murfreesboro (35+) Christian Singles Meetup group.
The Murfreesboro nondenominational church, started in 2009, has periodic worship nights, and to involve the community, aims to hold one a year at an outdoor location. Last year’s was held at a park. This year the church was excited to be able to hold the event on the Square.
Church member Patty Carpenter, who was helping hand out free bottled water, said the church has been praying for the city and more opportunities to share the gospel.
Friday’s event started with Mayor Shane McFarland giving an opening prayer. The crowd totaled around 4,000 people or more, according to organizers, with people coming and going and mingling with Boro Art Crawl-goers on nearby sidewalks, making for a lively evening, one also marked by beautiful weather.
Keshav Paudel was there with a friend from Experience. Paudel, who is from Nepal and is a graduate student at Middle Tennessee State University, has visited Experience several times and said he has been learning about the Bible. Once a non-practicing cultural Hindu, he already has a zeal to share the Christian faith.
“I want to make the Bible easy to understand for other people,” said Paudel, who is studying chemistry and plans to be a research scientist and also travel the world on mission trips.
Experience is known for its various outreach efforts, including feeding the homeless, doing yard work in neighborhoods, and serving hot dogs and water to people coming of bars on Friday nights to form relationships and make sure they get home safely.
My husband and I are homeless and we attended your services twice or maybe three times this year. But now my husband is gone home to Jesus but he want be forgotten. I know that he really tried to give me the best but I didn’t care about the best I just wanted use to grow old together and get God’s blessing for everything that we done in his his name Jesus. Amen
