Georgia GOP ‘Deeply Disturbed’ by Fulton County Board of Commissioners Failing to Confirm New Election Board Member

The Georgia Republican Party (GAGOP) released a statement expressing frustration with the Fulton County Board of Commissioners after the group recently failed to confirm the second of two nominees to the Fulton County Board of Registrations and Election (BRE).

Under local law, “[t]wo members shall be appointed by the governing authority of Fulton County from nominations made by the [chairperson of the Fulton County Republican Party].”

However, Jason Frazier, the second Republican nominee nominated by the county Republican Party for a seat on the county Board of Registration and Elections, was not confirmed for a second time during the board’s meeting on Wednesday.

In addition, the board voted to pass a motion so that Frazier’s nomination would not return to the commission agenda, despite more than two dozen speakers demanding his appointment during the meeting’s public comment period.

In a statement following the board’s decision not to confirm Frazier to the BRE, GAGOP Chairman Josh McKoon said, “Today’s decision is yet another blow to public confidence in elections in Fulton County. Denying the Republican Party equal representation on the BRE in violation of the clear language of the Local Act is unacceptable and will not be allowed to go unchallenged.”

Fulton County was at the center of controversy during the 2020 presidential election, as there were long voting lines and delays in reporting results. After the election, Frazier, who describes himself as a citizen volunteer and “data geek,” took it upon himself to examine and clean up the voter rolls in Fulton County.

Many residents who spoke during Wednesday’s meeting expressed concern that Frazier’s work with the county’s voter rolls played a part in the commission’s refusal to appoint him to the BRE.

Yes, Every Kid

GAGOP agrees, as the party added in a statement, “The nominee that has been rejected for a second time is a highly educated working professional who meets the legal requirements to serve. Apparently the sole reason for rejecting him is his use of lawful means to attempt to update Fulton County’s inaccurate voter rolls.”
