Tennessee Gas Prices Continue to Be Least Expensive in the Nation as Overall Averages Decrease

The average gas price in Tennessee continues to be lower than the national average, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Tennessee’s average gas price of $3.09 Tuesday was one cent lower than the previous day’s average; ten cents lower than the previous week’s average; 24 cents lower than last month’s average; and one cent lower than the average around the same time last November.

Meanwhile, the nation’s average price of $3.52 on Tuesday was lower than the previous day, week, and month average – however, it remains higher than last year’s average price of $3.10 around the same time in November.

The Tennessee averages at each point in time were all lower than the national average, AAA data shows.

Despite average national gas prices remaining higher than they were last year, AAA notes that prices have been falling since early August.

On Monday, the nation’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.54 – 22 cents less than a month ago and 15 cents more than a year ago around this same time.

“Gas prices are dropping nationwide, with some of the largest decreases happening on the West Coast,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said in a statement. “But the West also has the farthest to fall because its prices are so elevated. For instance, California is still $1.50 higher than the national average.”

Tennessee is not alone in having some of the cheapest gas prices in the nation. Other states with the top least expensive markets, according to Tuesday’s AAA data, include: Texas ($2.87), Mississippi ($3.02), Oklahoma ($3.02), Arkansas ($3.02), Georgia ($3.03), Louisiana ($3.05), Missouri ($3.09), Alabama ($3.11), and South Carolina ($3.12).
