Governor Lee Appoints New District Attorney General to Williamson County

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has appointed Stacey Edmonson as district attorney general for the 21st Judicial District – which covers Williamson County – effective immediately.

“Stacey is a dedicated public servant and highly-qualified attorney, and I value the significant experience she will continue to bring to the 21st Judicial District,” Lee said in a statement. “I am confident she will lead with integrity, and I appreciate her service to Tennesseans.”

For the past 12 years, Edmonson has served as deputy district attorney general for the 21st Judicial District. She graduated from Belmont University with a bachelor’s degree and earned her law degree at Loyola University School of Law.

Edmonson’s appointment to the role comes as a vacancy was created by the sudden passing of the late General Kim Helper, who served as the district attorney general for the 21st Judicial District since 2008.

In 1998, Helper began her career in public service in Tennessee. In addition to her position as district attorney, she has served in the attorney general’s office and as an assistant district attorney.

Helper was also an active member of various local organizations, including St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Lodge #41 of the Fraternal Order of Police, Keep Tennessee Beautiful Advisory Board, Williamson County Republican Career Women, Leadership Franklin Alumni Association, Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Alumni, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Following Helper’s passing, Governor Lee signed a resolution passed by the Tennessee General Assembly to honor her memory.

Senate Joint Resolution 360 states, “Kim Helper leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all her chosen endeavors. It is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being.”
